I love how with all of the Furious Rajang examples, there's always that split second before it cuts to the next turf war where Rajang immediately starts sprinting directly at the hunter. That is one angry monkey.

Rajangs are the only monsters you can't reliable run away from. For other monsters, as soon as you run out of the area, they're too slow to catch up and will stop the fight. Rajang will chase you to the ends and even beam attack you from halfway across the map.

If one combatant can intimidate the other into backing down by showing off how big it is, then that's energy saved and possible crippling injury prevented to both parties. That's literally what "sizing up" means. Rise may not have leaned as hard into the environmental interactions like World did, but it had plenty of moments that showed the monsters were actually just exceptionally large and powerful animals, and this is one of the great examples.

I always liked how the turfwars show that just because a monster is stronger to hunter doesn’t mean they’re stronger to other monsters. Espinas vs. kushala is a great example. Espinas is less dangerous to hunters than kushala, but kushalas tornadoes are useless against something as bulky as espinas, so it forces him into a fight of brute strength. Which really isn’t kushalas strong point.

Magnamalo needs more varied turf wars in general… As a “function over form” kind of guy myself, I can see why Magnamalo does the same thing over and over with flying enemies when it usually works so well (plus it turns the turf war into another attack against the player in itself), but it’d be nice if we have some turf wars against monsters that don’t fly. We already have a good idea on how _Those_ engagements go anyway, so they can just build up from that.

Invisible chameleon can fly, doesn't use powerset, by making them super binary they show the problem many people have with comics that characters powerset is just what the ploy needs them to be. And magna as the super edgeboy who needs to feel validated needs to be strong enough to handle elder dragons when just about every brand new big boi can since it's a power metric that in reality matters next to nothing. When you consider that they are animals not anime protagonist.

@@christianlangdon3766 My recommendation for Magnamalo in future games would be to A: straight up make it an invader monster in the same league as Rajang and Deviljho that appears late game, to make sure it’s level of power at least makes _sense_ from a game and lore perspective, and B: Throw in new turf wars against other kinds of enemies. They can follow the criteria of doubling as an attack against careless players (like smaller monsters like Odogaron can be repealed by a violent hellfire explosion that bulldozes players in the way as it ragdolls into the distance). Also, kinda unrelated, but have you ever played _Evolve?_ I loved the game and hated how it died off with such indignity when worse games power on with so much worse against them. I would LOVE for Capcom to take the 5 monsters from the game (with their variants) and release them with the master difficulty of the next game that goes multi-console.

Gotta say, my favourites was Zinogre vs Lunagaron, Malzeno vs Lunagaron and Malzeno vs Scorned Magnamalo. The double howls by Zinogre and Lunagaron was such an epic start to a fight between two alpha wolves, Malzeno choking Lunagaron with its tail and making it squirm helplessly was so cool, and Malzeno and Scorned Magnamalo parrying their claw, then tail attacks, then Scorned Magnamalo tanking it Malzeno’s Bloodblight beam and actually still damage it was *chef kiss* perfection

Scorned Magnamalo is everything a variant should be(Both abilities and design-wise)! Very few variants distinguish themselves from their base forms(Usually it's just element change or color swap or both). Scorned vs Malzeno is probably the best turf war in this 5th Gen.

As far as I know, Rajang used to be the only non-Elder Dragon that could beat an Elder Dragon in a turf war. Even Savage Jho could only get a draw at best. Magnamalo is on something else.

Magna is easily the strongest of the Fanged Wyverns. Now there's an Elder Dragon-level monster in all of these categories: Fanged Beast (Rajang), Fanged Wyvern (Scorned Magnamalo), Flying Wyvern (Bazelgeuse), and Brute Wyvern (Deviljho). Can't wait to see the Elder Dragon-level Leviathan and Amphibian. Or a Neopteron that can just shred through stuff.

Magnamalo always ties with Elders. Espinas does have a random chance to actually beat Kushala, but it's not a guarantee.

@@TornaitSuperBird Don't forget Ahtal-ka. That's probably the most dangerous of all. Also flying wyverns have Akantor and Ukanlos. Ukanlos even strait up preys on Kushala and Deviljho.

In frontier it's written that Espina has beaten kushala. Since his body is armored as hell and his potent poison only elders are a direct threat to it and kushala is weak to poison.
