A wonderful video, thank you Jeffrey! I love the music and Ann; wow, she is the ultimate singer. Such a beautiful voice, full of colours, even throughout the range, musical, technically close to flawless and she has such a distinct personal touch to everything she does. What an artist! And she might be the most hardworking, kindest, unpretentious, respectful (and respected person) I have ever met. When I spoke to her yesterday she had a busy day. "Why", I asked, "you are finally at home and you have a day free". "I know," she replied, "but we have 30 people from the local choir here at my home. It's fantastic!" And this is in Älgarås, Sweden, where 417 people live (really: 417!). She and her husband Holger are an endless recourse of knowledge and enthusiasm.

Wat a lovely music. I saw Ann on television on Prinsengrachtconcert in Amsterdam for the forst time and i was inspirerend by her music. You can look up her with many songs on KZbin. Her songs are so beautiful.

Jeffrey Stivers I most certainly will 🥰 I have tried looking on so many sites and libraries yet I can’t find a score. Is it possible maybe they had it arranged for Ann from an old recording or something like this ? I know this opera is rarely performed and the composer himself isn’t so well known, probably only known by the baroque music appreciating community. This makes me so sad. I love his music

Ann Hallenberg, née le 17 mars 1967, est une cantatrice suédoise, tessiture de mezzo-soprano .Elle est plus spécialement active dans le répertoire baroque.

Les parents de Giacomelli sont Giuseppe Giacomelli et son épouse Maria Tej. Il apprend le chant, le contrepoint et le clavecin auprès de Giovanni Maria Capelli, maître de chapelle et compositeur de la cathédrale, et compositeur à la Cour ducale. Les hypothèses selon lesquelles il aurait étudié avec Alessandro Scarlatti en 1724 et qu'il serait ensuite entré au service de la cour impériale de Charles VI à Vienne sont probablement erronées. En 1718 il épouse à Plaisance Francesca Marchi, qui lui donnera neuf enfants. Du 1er mars 1719 à février 1727, Giacomelli fut maître de chapelle à la cour ducale de Parme et, à partir du 27 mars 1719, également de l'église Madonna della Steccata. Il partageait la responsabilité de ce poste avec son maître Capelli. Le 3 janvier 1727, conformément au souhait exprès du duc Francesco Farnese, il fut nommé maître de chapelle à vie de l'église San Giovanni de Plaisance, pour une salaire annuel de 2000 lires de Plaisance. Il obtint également l'avantage de s'absenter comme il le désirait, charge à lui de se trouver un remplaçant et de fournir la musique nécessaire. A cette époque, il composa toute une série d'opéras destinés aux plus importantes maisons d'opéra d'Italie, sans toutefois délaisser ses obligations auprès de la cour ducale. C'est ainsi qu'il composa en 1728 l'opéra Scipione in Cartagine nuova (Scipion à Carthagène) pour l'intronisation (il solenne ingresso : l'entrée solennelle) de la princesse Enrichetta Maria d’Este, puis en 1729, Lucio Papirio dittatore à l'occasion d'une visite du duc de Modène, Rinaldo En 1724 Geminiano Giacomelli est nommé maître de chapelle principal du duc de Parme. En 1738, il devient maître de chapelle de la Santa Casa di Loreto. Ses compositions comprennent des œuvres lyriques et de la musique sacrée.

I believe it is. This is the only thing I've ever heard from this opera. The libretto is by Apostolo Zeno (1668-1750).

I've heard one other piece by this composer -from the opera Merope -I think the artist who sang it was Cecilia Bartoli in her Castrati album. I'm interested in Orientalism in baroque opera with Handel's "Tamerlano" being a prime example but there are many others -I discovered the other week, on KZbin a complete performance of Telemann's "Mirreweis" and 18th century Afghan hero who drove out the Persians -the events as described in this opera were more or less headline news at the time - this opera is in German not Italian.
