open vs limited slip vs locked diff. An open diff is as you would expect, open, the input power is applied equally until one wheel experiences slip, like being stuck in snow or mud. You will see only one tire spinning when stuck because there is nothing locking the two wheels together, so all the power will go to the spinning wheel. Limited slip uses a series of clutches within the diff to apply a percentage of power to the opposite wheel when it slips, allowing it to catch. Input power will be applied equally to both wheels until one slips, in snow or mud, then the clutches will engage and send a percentage of the power from the slipping wheel to the non slipping wheel, this give increased traction in poor environments. Locked diff or welded, is when the wheels are locked. They both share all the power all the time with no slip between them. This wasnt a perfect explanation of the subject but its is the basics. i clicked on a Destiny video about 0-5000, watched some of that. and actually watched this whole video. In part cause you said haters (my word not yours lol) made you make a new channel. lol. Anyways. i do a little diy maintnence on my own car so this is neat. Nothing this involved as i live in an apartment and don't have jack stands and stuff. But i need to change a vacuum pump on a 2005 mercededs c230 next. It's an easy job though. like two bolts.
