Now I get it. This joke is a play on baseball terminology and the unexpected context of animals playing baseball. In baseball, if a pitcher throws three balls, the next pitch could result in a walk if it's also a ball (four balls lead to a walk). So, "walking" an elephant with three balls means to allow it to take a base rather than risking another ball that would automatically allow it to advance. The punchline "pitch to the rhino" suggests that the rhino is a less intimidating batter compared to the elephant, so the strategy would be to face the presumably easier opponent. One day, in a Middle School math class, I overheard one young lady who was part of a group I had been assigned to sharing with another young lady who was in the same group this joke someone had told her that she didn't get. Q: How do you make an elephant fly? A: You start with a very large zipper. I considered it for just a moment and got it. When I laughed, she asked me to explain it and I said, "You've never heard of a fly zipper?" With that, they both got it and we all had a chuckle. You _can_ explain a joke, but I'll agree, if they don't understand it fairly quickly, you're probably wasting your time.

Great reaction Amelia like always, love this movie is so funny. There are some fun.facts about it. Amelia you wouldn’t be alone in thinking that the scenes shot on the aircraft carrier were actually shot at sea. Amazingly, the ‘ship’ wasn’t even touching the water. For the scenes shot on the aircraft carrier, the production team built a wooden deck on the edge of a cliff. The scenes on the carrier were then shot at an angle to make the deck look as if it was at sea. Charlie Sheen gives a shoutout to his future sister-in-law in the film, In one scene, Sheen’s character spins his plane around and says “I learned this one from Paula Abdul.” At the time of filming, Paula Abdul was in a relationship with Sheen’s brother, Emilio Estevez. In some of the early previews of the film, the part of Saddam Hussein was credited as being played by the man himself Hillarious! 12 years after the release of this movie, stars Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Ryan Styles went on to star in CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. And that’s not all - the song The Man I Love, sung by Valeria Golino in Hot Shots!, was also sung by Charlie’s mum in an episode of Two and a Half Men. One memorable scene in this sees Charlie Sheen place an olive into Valeria Golino’s belly button, only for her to successfully pop it into her mouth without using her hands. While you might have assumed that this shot was filmed using some sort of trick photography or else simply heavily edited, Golino has always insisted that the shot was real. Impressive! Great movie. Another Parody is Top Secret with Val Kilmer who is also in Top Gun . Also a great 80's spy romantic comedy with the guy who plays Goose who is almost unknown today is Gotcha! which I highly recommend . This movie parody allot of movies not just Top Gun. It parody dances with wolfs for example and the scene with the piano is a parody on a movie Baker Boys (Shrek also parody it). The dentist scene is a a parody on a great thriller movie called Marathon Man with Dustin Hopman. The sex scene is a spoof on 9 and half weeks a 80's movie with Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke. Another great parody you should see with Emilio Estvaz (Chrilie Sheen brother) is Loaded Weapon.
