Produced by: Alex Weir, Chris Walton, Scott Libengood, and Rick Sosa.
Dreamhouse Studios and Cut It Up Def Entertainment are excited to announce the debut of their latest creation, "The Bass That Ate Miami, The Foundation". This independent documentary is based on the evolution of music in South Florida and the untold story of the hip hop genre known as Miami Bass. South Florida artists, producers and music executives helped evolve this sound into its own unique hip hop dance genre. Miami Bass dominated the airwaves and car speakers from the mid 1980's to the mid 1990's. The Miami Bass sound continues to influence many of today's hottest artists.
As hip hop grew and took over different regions of the U.S.; South Florida gave birth to a new style of hip hop that most people don't realize evolved there. The fast, bass heavy drum beats that are used in pop culture today were created on the street corners of South Florida with huge speakers and massive street parties.
The documentary features segments on Kraftwerk, Electro-Funk, breakdancing, turntableism, drum machine programming (the 808 & the SP1200), the process of record making, car audio exhibitions and of course high energy dance moves.
Some of the main creators of this genre are interviewed including; Afrika Bambaataa (The God Father of Hip Hop), Pretty Tony (The Inventor of Freestyle), Mr. Mixx (One of the Forefathers of Bass), Jim Jonsin, Afro-Rican, Dynamix II and many more producers, deejay's & artists from the old school to new school.

First of all Id like to give props to the creators of the Miami Bass Movie and everyone involved, especially all of the great artists, producers, Djs. etc. I wanted to make a post to set the record straight regrading the first Miami bass Track released. The movie states ghetto Jump was in fact the first Miami Bass release. This is incorrect. Bass Rock Express produced By M.C.A.D.E. was released FIRST and Ghetto Jump was released after. This is a fact and I know this because I was there. I produced my track and also worked in my fathers record store from the age of 11. So making and selling records at the time they are released was part of my every day life. Bass music has been my identity since I first heard T LA Rock's, "Its yours". Being there at the time will avoid any speculation. But don't take my word for this, look at the facts and you can make your own logical conclusion. The Chicken before the Egg 1. Bass Rock Express used the Green Acres Tv show theme melody that used a banjo. ( Bass Rock Express used a Banjo to play the same banjo melody as Green Acres. ) 2. Ghetto Jump also used a TV show theme, the Wild wild West Tv show. Actual TV show Melody played by a low string or bass guitar. ( Ghetto Jump uses a Banjo sound to play low string or bass guitar melody of wild Wild West. The SAME Banjo used on Bass Rock Express ) What would make more sense? A. Ghetto Jump uses a Banjo sound to emulate a popular tv show melody originally played by a low string sound then ADE hears Ghetto Jump and recognizes the sound and says, hmm thats the same banjo in green acres, lets make a green Acres song. Hmm OR B. Bass Rock Express emulates the exact melody and Banjo sound as Green Acres, is then released and is one of 4-sites biggest selling tracks. Its heard by producers and then Ghetto Jump is released with the same Banjo as Bass rock Express playing a tv show themes melody that doesn't call for a Banjo. Question A is basically putting the Chicken before the egg and doesn't make much sense. Henry Stone was a very smart Executive who understood and practiced a formula of emulating what was hot at the time. This is well known by listening to his catelog. I think we all emulate something. I know I have. So this is how it went, Bass Rock Express was released first and was very hot. Ghetto Jump was then released on the same formula of Bass and recognizable melody of a TV show theme. The fact that Ghetto Jump used the same Banjo from Bass Rock Express for a TV show melody that didnt call for it will tell you that Bass Rock Express came first. Im a very strong believer in my faith, so the truth is much more important than any personal accolades or trying lessen the achievements of any other producers. These are ALL great tracks I listened to, sold in my fathers record store and have made Miami Bass what it is! I just felt the need to state the facts. If anyone ( who was here at the time ) can dispute this, it would make a great discussion. MC. A.D.E

Miami Bass is what turned me into an audiophile and made me appreciate audio engineering when I was a teenager. It put me on the path to wanting to have a kick ass home theater that could be bombastic for movies and music both but clean sounding and balanced. Now I have a great home theater system that sounds incredible and can shake your butt and send you into euphoria when lsitening to your favorite music. My very very first Miami Bass album was Dynamix II: Bass Planet. I love the sci-fi spacey sounds on that album and I wanted more. It wasn't just the bass - it was the entire production.

This documentary sent chills through my spine. I remember being glued to the radio at 6, 7, 8, 9 years old and listening to EVERY one of these songs on the radio. I'm from Brevard County, FL and this era of bass music was bigger to me than anything else in the world! I knew EVERY song played in this film, and I was shocked that most of the stuff I was listening to was white guys! You guys did an amazing job with this. If a soundtrack existed of all the songs in this film, I would pay $1,000 for it. Thank you for taking me back in time.

Your right, maybe Ghetto Jump was not the first Miami Bass record, but each artists expressed there thoughts and experiences, but we all know ADE, Mixx, Amos, Gig, Bo, and a few other key players were one of the first. We had to give the world a summary of this amazing powerful music and sound. Much Respect to all.

The bass that ate Miami blew the speakers in my car! This is great! This is the shit I grew up with! when I entered the military a lot of the northern and west coast made fun of this shit. I just replied that while their rappers were talking about killing each other us Florida boys where bassing out and watching the girls shake their asses to this shit. We were more interested in the girls versus guys!

So blessed that I grew up in Daytona Beach right in the middle of the Bass triangle that stretched from Miami up north to Atlanta and back south to Tampa... I been slamming Electro for years now and it all started as a teenager at Skate City getting those first goose bumps when my ears heard an 808 drum before I even knew what it was. I just knew I loved Miami Bass and now guys like Exzakt who keeps the 808 lifestyle are why I still listen to it in 2018.

I love the movie and it was much needed. For me and many others the Miami Bass movie that was never made is a reality film that shows specifically where the Miami Bass artist were, what happened to them, where their career went & why, where they are and doing now, and what their presently doing during the filming through popular demand and voting polls from the fans whom want to see them resurface.

@mossadon
@mossadon 9 жыл бұрын
Hello. With all due respect...Kurtis didn't invent that shit...at all...nowhere close. His 1st record was released in 85. "What we gona do right here is go back...way back. Back into time" ... i agree i did expect him n his music to get a mention but not fussed that he didn't... because he didn't invent editing or fast edit cuts. Tape editing was a mainstay of studio production in splicing out unwanted parts where maybe a mistake was made, only slight, the band would be waved on to keep going and the mistake edited out or a track running too long edited down for a single. It was also a part of reggae production techniques in Jamaica. It moved forward with the disco era and the arrival of 12"s and the master cuts of Larry Levan and Tony Humphries who created extended "disco mix" versions that chopped and rearranged parts of songs into a wholly different vibe as it was no longer a straight through recording of a song by a band. Sometimes creating stutter rolls. Tony also did a lot of this for his radio show "Friday night MASTERMIX dance party" as well as actually, for yeeeears after, having a reel to reel tape machine in the club so he could play his own exclusive remixes. Fast edits and stutters ? 1981 !!! TONY MORAN & ALBERT CARBRERA = LATIN RASCALS. >DROPS KEYBOARD, WALKS OFF STAGE< ;)

Not hating -- but Mantroniks beats - the drum programming portion particularly - even by his own admission were a bit quirky / not normal which is the antithesis of Miami Bass/Electro . So he was same era using the same gear 808's and 909's etc - but he had a totally different feel that was not Miami / Southern Florida feel or tempo.

The "movie" never says ghetto jump is the first bass record..Amos Larkins implies that through a mistake during ghetto jump the response made him continue extending the decay on the 808 and it became known as Miami bass ..legend also has it that Amos himself programmed bass rock express , we stayed impartial for the whole Amos ADE ...Kooley C KJ Brain Damage ..beefs etc ..we let each person present their side...I was there too and in my opinion bass rock express and ghetto jump were still more electro funk than Miami bass ..like a prototype ..to me , and this is a matter of opinion of course . The true Miami bass sound was created by Dave Hobbs aka Mr. Mixx

Awesome movie, but Legend has it? Legend also has an 8 foot hairy monster walking around called big foot and there is a fairy princess that leaves money under your pillow when you lose a tooth. Legend doesnt come into play when there is EVIDENCE and the person is still alive, lol. You do realize Ade's the person ON the record is alive and here telling you? To say Legend has it someone else produced Ade's doesnt seem to be very respectful. He and others help pave the way for the very music this documentary is about when many of us were in middle school. I seriously doubt youd like anyone telling you that Legend has it, someone else made YOUR track by someone that wasnt even around at the time. cmon, really?

jerry berry well hate to burst your bubble bruh...but of the 4 hours of footage we got. We actually got ade admitting he didn't program the drum machine for bass rock express ...that's not an engineers job ..and Hobbs was IN Miami when he did ghetto bass and throw the d...the first true Miami bass records IN MY OPINION ...and if we're really gonna go there the first Bass records came from NY by east coast Dr dre and Rick Rubin..in fact that's who are and Amos and everyone else down here including Hobbs were emulating by their OWN admission , and you telling you gonna believe Adrienne over Amos because he's the artist in the record is the most hilarious thing I ever heard...I suppose the artists never lie regarding their records? News flash ...if there's anything I learned making this movie is that EVERYBODY lies and exaggerates regarding there music...so keep trolling, I got nothing else to say to you about it , as it is obvious to me you THINK you know a lot more than you actually do

Christopher Walton Yes like saying ghetto jump was released first but wasnt? Yea I agree and Im sorry Im just like you bruh,someone that was NOT there. I think it would be fair to say MANY artists dont play the drums on their tracks but have input on the sound they want. Guess the drummer on James Brown records produced the songs and the keyboard player in Katy Perrys tracks should be put down as the producer as well? you cant be serious, lol By your token a lot of Artists lie so we can say Taylor Swift produced Cut it up def? I read Ades post and it was to the point and not malicious at all. You yourself are basically admitting Ade was truthful in saying Amos programmed the drum machine, so it looks like hes being truthful here. Nothing racial here but a white guy - who was at best just out of middle school at the time- on the "mean streets" of West Palm Beach ( lmao ) telling a brutha from Liberty City what happened then and what Bass music is and calling him a liar is the funniest shyt Ive ever heard. I seriously almost fell out of my chair, bahahahaha No trolling at all here and Ill chill. But I dont blame you for not responding as it would sound foolish, Bruh, lol

Christopher Walton 1. I didn't program Beefbox - programmed by Frank Cornielus 2. I didnt program Bass rock express - programmed Amos Larkin 3. I didnt program bass mechanic - programmed by Nat Siediman In music production there is a thing called a studio musician, you may have heard of it. They come in and play the instruments, but do not get credit as the producer. Like I have said so many times I didn't know how to work the drum machine, keyboards etc..... but they all played the beats and music directed by me, these are people before and after Amos ask them. If anything I could just as easily said I did it all. what does that tell you? and if you looked at that footage and came up with that!, that say's a lot about you and what you might be feeling, but it's well known Being a Pioneer you will have a lot Jealous people hating on the low. But I will still be A.D.E. and you will still be living in my Legacy! I am Miami Bass, and Hobbs is my boy, But Ghetto bass came after Bass rock express Fact not Legend!...
