A big shoutout to Brandon for hooking me up with this game. A young Ben Roethlisberger was the freshman quarterback for the Redhawks in 2001, which makes this game even more intriguing to watch again.

It was almost the game of June Jones' dreams. Get rid of those 11 running plays, and there you have it -- the perfect run-and-shoot game.
Nick Rolovich piled up a career-best 500 yards passing and threw for a school-record seven touchdowns last night as Hawaii (7-3) guaranteed a winning season by outlasting Miami (Ohio) (7-4) in the most furious finish of the season. The Warriors prevailed 52-51 as Rolovich hooked up with all four starting receivers for at least one touchdown.
In the end, it was redshirt freshman kicker Justin Ayat who provided the difference between two wild offenses -- Miami coach Terry Hoeppner's "Midwest Coast Offense," which amassed 616 yards with freshman Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback, and Jones' run-and-shoot, with former backup Rolovich winning his sixth of seven starts this season.

Hopefully we also get an archive of Hawaii vs. Montana on the island of Maui. Very rarely does Hawaii's Footballing Warriors of Light play on the Neighbor Islands. This was a once-in-a-lifetime occassion.

Why did they keep mispronouncing Ashley Leslie's name. They kept saying "Lalie" Jim Leahy even said Lalie and Lelie within the same conversation with Dick Tomey. Either way thank you posting this. Never had a clue Ben played against Hawaii.

In hindsight, viewers, this was a classic battle, more classic than people think: a titanic test between Hawaii's current head coach (as of 2018) and a bona fide Pro Football Hall of Famer. No wonder this was a shootout.

Miami-Ohio QB Ben Roethlisberger gave us an early glimpse of his brilliance. But the Redhawk defense's near-complete inability to blunt the quick-strike capability of Warrior QB Nick Rolovich and his corps of receivers in critical moments ultimately cost them dearly in this game.

Football was soft even in 2001. 71 didn't do anything to get ejected on that play. What an injustice.
