4:14 - let's also not forget this scene seems to foreshadow Michael Mann's love of building rooftop scenes where important or clandestine meetings take place. We see this is Heat, Collateral and Miami Vice (2006)

Has anyone noticed the dialogue in this one? It's surreal. It's like a cross between trying to be hip, a pulpy crime novel, classic film noir, tough guy action and just plain weird. But it's good.

It's a brilliant Mini movie. The writing, acting and directing are also outstanding. The casting, soundtrack and filming locations too is prefect. The Prodigal Son is leaps and bounds the Best Miami Vice 2 part episode. So glad to see the fans of the show still paying homage to this brilliant TV Series and particular episode.

A song not mentioned that I loved was Rubbermiro by Liquid Liquid. It plays when C&T escape the hitmen... it fits so perfectly, for years I thought Jan Hammer had written it himself for the episode.

even as a hetero dude I can admit there's something special about Don Johnson and his freaking almond shaped eyes. The man is 70 years old and still emanates a boyish charm.

To me, he's the Brad Pitt of the 80s, a damn good character actor who's stuck in an-A level actor's access He could have peeked in the 70s, but he looked too androgynous at the time. I like him because we're both Sagittarius.

One of my favorite MV lines of all time is missing from most versions except the VHS tape I had... when Crockett confronts Margaret, and she says she's Public Relations, and he says, "That's what I am... like a public park... public toilet!"

I have a DVD set that has that line. The set has all the original music and the episode, “Evan”!

Youuuu forgot GOODBYE GIRL by Go West...during the scene where Tubbs and Crockett are speaking to Jimmy in a bar, Crockett goes to get a pack of Cigarettes, he sees a hit man in the mirror reflection and opens fire using his back up weapon...shooting him dead through a wall...very cool. My favourite episode, which I must say SHOULD of been more about Tubbs as we are in his city. Even the song YOU BELONG TO THE CITY was meant for Tubbs and his relationship with New York...EoC.

I think it must be hard to imagine just how powerful, and popular, this series was to everyone living in the entire world at the time. This two-parter was my personal favorite, especially the conclusion when they meet this man in NYC who knows to the penny what is in their bank accounts, and explains why drug dealing is intricate to the maintenance of the US economy. If you've ever been inside certain tall buildings that were modern back in the 80s along Miami's Brickell Avenue, each floor housed a S American bank where money that should have been used in S America to help their populations were being kept, privately, by those who lived off of it after stealing all of it. Or, earned it through international weapons sales. This 2-parter was my favorite - until the 2-parter that occurred later, when Crocket lost his memory and believed he actually was a drug kingpin, with a new visionary business plan. Julia Roberts was beautiful in part 1, and then seemed to 'disappear' in part 2 that opened the next season. Do you recall a TV commercial which came out at the time, where a beautiful young female is waiting alone in a glamorous restaurant filled with patrons. Upset that her date hasn't arrived, she walks over to a pay phone, where, over the phone, her 'date' explains he won't be there, because Miami Vice is on TV. There is the sound of a tornado, and overturned chairs, behind the young female. She looks around, and the entire restaurant is now, suddenly, completely empty - because, like her date, everyone would rather be home watching Miami Vice. If you can find that TV commercial, that would be quite a feather in your white linen suit!

One of my favorite episodes. I watched it recently and only had one issue, this would've been a great time to bring up Tubbs' being from New York. Have Crockett and Tubbs bump into someone from his old unit or have his former chief be one of the DA's that dress them down

Did you notice that, at the end of the meeting in Johnston's office, Crockett gives Johnston the finger off-camera? His hands are in his pockets. He takes one out, pauses and puts it back in his pocket. If you look at it a few times you see that he is giving Johnston the finger off-camera.

Season 2 was the high point of the Miami Vice TV series --especially the thought-provoking pilot episode ("Prodigal Son"). Some of the best episodes in the series are in Season 2 (and the second half of Season 1).

For me the first season was one of the greatest on TV ever, and even though this episode starts the second season, it really for me is the bookend that marks the finale of that triumph. Hereafter, I would say the series got much worse, with a few exceptions and a bit of a resurgence in the final season (but by then too late to save the series).
@clarissawestbrook22033 жыл бұрын
The first season is the best for me too but the second season is excellent too. Those two are the very best. The last three had some decent to good episodes here and there but the quality and consistently of the quality wasn't nearly as high as the first two seasons.

I might not have fully understand this ep, but the plot actually sounded thin. Of course, some geniuses claimed that it must been considered innovative to do away with plot altogether. Yes, the scene with Julian Beck is magnificent. Great dialogue, and that condescending prick he played! "I don't care if it's the USS Enterprise.....!

The Vice casting crew knew what they were doing. Miguel Pinero had been at Riker’s Island. Gene Simmons is just a hideous human being in real life-his own band mate said that of him.
