This was not just a tv series finale, it marked and coincided with the end of an era as well. The 80s had just ended along with the Cold War with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the lifting of the Soviet Iron Curtain, and a new era starting in 1990 had just began.

Greatest tv series of all time. Hands down. Nothing else came close. It captured a decade like the 80's and the music of that era like no other show before or since. Watching these oldy but goody Miami Vice re-runs never get old to me. Friday nights back in the the day as a young teenager was high school football games and Miami Vice.

Growing up in London this show took over the U.K. it was absolutely huge and was a part of my everyday life as a young lad . We talked about it every second of every day because it was cool .. nice cars nice women amazing music and 2 very smart cops dressed beautifully. When it ended a little bit of my childhood hood died that night . I look at it now and almost have tears

Miami vice was such a big part of growing up for me. Wont ever forget the opening with that cig boat and music ripping across the waves. They never ended up going anywhere in acting after this show. Few movies but it just didnt work because you couldnt see them in anything but miami vice. Cheers

Such great scenes..awesome episode, and the start of a new decade, but it was now a new decade without Miami Vice, and that was heartbreaking...We've had lots of good shows to follow but none that really measured up to our beloved Miami Vice and cast...I miss this show being on, and I miss the 80's, my consolation is only that I have all of Miami Vice on dvd,......Miami Vice Forever!

Free fall was one the best Miami Vice of the final season. The 80's were coming to an end and the show needed to go out with a bang and what better way than Crockett and Tubbs finally get disillusioned with the Job and quit the force by the end of the episode.

Long before series such as The X-Files and Babylon 5 would boast of their story "arcs", Miami Vice was one of the first series to have a strong arc of character development throughout its run, particularly with regards to Crockett. Even in long-running series of the time, most characters were basically static and unchanging, but Crockett begins Miami Vice as a youthful, energetic cop, still optimistic despite having seen the dark side of his job on numerous occasions, and believing with great idealism that he can make a difference. Eventually, however, the anger and pain caused by the betrayal and/or loss of nearly everyone he cares about lead to his dark side taking him over. Finally, both he and Tubbs realize that they cannot really create change within a corrupt system and choose to free themselves from it. The only other character with an equivalent arc is Switek (although it does not really start until the final season of the show).

Great ending to the show. D@mn DJ was great as Sonny and PMT was a great compliment to the duo. Maybe it would've been cool if we got a Miami Vice movie with those two together but a friend told me once....don't feel sad because they're gone, feel fortunate that you knew them. 🌴
