my lychee plant is 3 -4 ft tall. But the tip of leaves seems burnt. What is the reason? I talked to the everglades farm. They recommended Brewster to grow. But it seems Mauritius is the best one to grow. What do you think?

Hi there. In South Florida Mauritius does bloom and fruit best. Brewster is probably right behind Mauritius in productivity and fruits later. Brown tips on the leaves usually means a potassium deficiency.

Hey I was wondering if I use a bonsai fertilizer that is 0 10 10 to spray the foliage on my lychee if it will be good enough to force my lychee trees into dormancy before winter?

Hi there, your tree should slow down on its own as the temperatures drop along with the rainfall and humidity. What you don't want to do is fertilize with nitrogen (your mix has none), irrigate or prune starting in the fall. All three of those things will stop the tree from slowing down and preparing to bloom.

Lychee trees like a fertilizer that is high in potassium and low in nitrogen. If your tree is not fruiting it could be because it's not getting enough cold, or it gets too much nitrogen and water going in to the winter.

Lychee trees flower in the winter. They start getting small fruit in the spring. If your tree is not flowering, it may be because the tree did not get enough exposure to cool temperatures, or it may be getting to much nitrogen and water which will make the tree grow leaves instead of flowers.

Sooo, what are the low temps they can tolerate? I'm 10a we got chilly winds this late winter that did a lot of damage, how low can Lychee go?

A mature lychee can take 25 degrees for a short amount of time. Young tees can take 32 degrees.

You can pronounce it LIE-CHEE or LEE-CHEE. Lychee is the common name and litchi is part of the scientific name. Most people say LEE-CHEE, but both are correct.
