Miata Hard Dog Ace Rollbar

Welcome back to Tac N Track! Today, we’re gearing up our NB-1 Miata for the track by installing a new roll bar from Hard Dog Fabrication. We chose the Hard Dog Ace model, complete with double diagonals and a harness bar, which you can find on Track Dog Racing's website under Item Number: TDR-HD-AC2D.
Installation Overview
What You’ll Need:
Tools: Socket set, torque wrench, and basic hand tools
Safety Gear: Gloves and eye protection
Installation Kit: Comes with the roll bar
Step-by-Step Installation
Preparation:
Begin by ensuring your Miata is parked on a level surface.
Remove any seats or interior components that might obstruct the installation area.
Fit Check:
Before finalizing any installations, do a dry fit of the roll bar to ensure it fits well with the factory soft top. Ours fit perfectly!
Installing the Roll Bar:
Position the roll bar in the car, aligning it with the mounting points.
Use the provided bolts to secure the roll bar in place. Make sure to torque them to the manufacturer's specifications.
Adding Padding:
Although we opted for the high-density padding, it’s worth noting that it can be bulky. Ensure it’s positioned correctly to maximize safety without compromising headroom.
Final Checks:
Double-check all bolts and fittings for tightness.
Reinstall any interior components that were removed.
Conclusion
With the Hard Dog Ace roll bar installed, our Miata is now better equipped for track days. The combination of safety features and structural integrity makes it a worthwhile upgrade.

Why did you not like the high density padding?

We do! we have it in our dirt track racer but I did not get to it prior to the crash. Fortunately my head didn’t impact the roll bar- lucky!
