I hate AKG D112 on kick drum but apparently it sounds wonderful on bass cab. I'm surprised with the Audix i5 too. Thank you so much for this video, it's invaluable

I REALLY liked that AKG D112 and Audix D2. The MD421II did awesome too!

Great vidéo !!! We can buy all cabs and all mics we want, but unfortunatly we cannot buy a good bassist everywhere ! F...cking great play !

Great video I like this sure SM 7B in flat mode, it as a good amount of juice and it doesn’t have some choked or hyped sound like some of the others

The MD21 had the best low-mid bite. I really don’t get the appeal of the Audix mics. I use an RE320 in my live gig residency and it held up well in this test.

Also with this being distorted bass there isnt one mic that can capture both the massive low end and the highend hormonic detail of the distortion at the same time, most of these mics do either one or the other. In this case i would double mic. I would use the 1:27 Electro Voice RE320 in kick mode to capture the low end, this is what a miced up bass cab should sound like. Then I would use the 10:49 Oktava MK012 in omni to capture the highend detail. With this mic being a condenser its much better suited to capture the harmonic highend detail of the distortion. I would then find a blend of the 2 mics and if i needed more low end i would then use the di track and process for sub low end in the DAW.

First time in my entire life, I heard the exact same Bass loop for almost 15 minutes and wasn't bothered... Maybe this is a gateway to techno? I hope not, but man, great content👍 I really liked the audix d2 and d4 on my headphones

Real interesting video! Helped me to decide to buy the audix i5, superlux e 205 and the t bone sc400. The shure sm 57 (which turns out OK in this test) I already had. The sure beta 52 I already have but I Don't like it so much for bass... hé does the job for the kick drum that's for sure! The shure beta 57 doesn't turn out so well in this test though I used it before on some bass combination where it came with the best result then. And the senheiser e 906 which I also have also turns out very well in this test on flat position. Thank you for this nice shootout. This was very helpful to me!

I can't tell much from this. A lot of these mics don't hold the low fundamental very well. All I know is when micing a ten inch bass speaker, you need a mic with a nice dip around 500k, and for any bass cabs, a nice bump around 4k always helps. Close micing makes a lot of thick mud. On a 15" your better off with a large diaphragm condenser a few inches away or you'll drive yourself nuts trying to find the sweet spot.

Schönes Video. Auf Jeden interessant. Klasse Mikrofonsammlung.

I bought a Pro25AX based on this review - it was less than $100 new

For playing live, with distortion, I would go with the MD421, the AKG D112 or even the Audix i5 and I would blend that with a clean di.

Yeah I don’t get why so many of these mic reviews use distorted picked bass when all we want it clean juicy low end
