The pain you feel is the surface of a deeper pain which drove someone to kill themselves. Nothing crushes your soul more than the moment you start to justify the unimaginable pain you'll cause loved ones by your death. He must have experienced a tremendous amount of suffering to know that and still do it. We have to be especially careful to not blame anyone.
