Hello! Thank you for the video! Is there any difference between the diffusor you always show and the ones that you put directly on the flash (like a cap, hope you know what i mean)?

Same. Rarely do I make it out in the early morning when it's cool and insects are more sedentary. When I see something worth shooting I usually feel I have about 5 seconds to get my shot (if I'm lucky).

You have been a great help in understanding insect macro photography. Keep up the good work. Lou

I actually LOVE the picture at 6:50 lol! I think the straggly petals go perfectly with the kind of straggly hairs of the insect, and I love the colors. Don't get me wrong, I love bright, full, 'perfect' flowers too, but sometimes I think a dead or dying flower adds so much visual interest and makes a shot more unique.

Just like with every single video, everyone always leaves this comment. Just because you like the subject or even the photo as a whole doesn’t mean you can’t communicate its ideas more clearly. It isn’t ugly because its withered, its “ugly” because there is no real direction or focus
@cloudydaze5331 Жыл бұрын
@@melody3741 Just like with all art, it's subjective. Just because the piece doesn't match up with the "rules" of the art form (which are definitely useful to know but can always be broken) doesn't mean it's ugly. I really like it and I would honestly hang it on my wall. At the end of the day, it isn't ugly or beautiful. It just is. And then we have opinions about it. In your opinion it's ugly, in my opinion it's beautiful. Neither of us is right or wrong. 🤷 But if you mistake your opinion for fact, THEN you're wrong. 😉
@franzruberl15832 жыл бұрын
A tip if you want to ID the insect - take multiple pictures from multiple angles. The head on shot of a beetle might make a great picture, but you're generally much more likely to get an ID with a dorsal shot.

Really good advice! Thank you! I have personally done all the mistakes in the past, some I may still keep repeating today at times. But one thing I would like to differ in opinion a little though is that at least in the beginning, as an inexperienced photographer, it was good for me NOT to use flash, as it made me work harder in finding good lighting and figuring out the settings so that I can get a sharp and pleasing image. Yes, it didn't always work out but I learned so much from it and about the settings and functions of my camera. And only later it was the time to add flash! Which again lead me to work hard in figuring out how to use it, how to make the most of all the settings and how to apply them in different situations.

I had fun working through all of these mistakes. I feel like I had to go through them all to gain the deeper understanding of the limitations they put on my photography. Like a trip down memory lane, I can remember the times I learned these lessons. Excellent video!

The background one elevates pictures sooo much. If there isn't good enough contrast or it's just too messy I get so sad, since usually it can be fixed by just moving a little as you pointed out. Seriously, I can't tell you how many pictures ended up in trash just because of this. And I shoot flowers! I have all the time in the world T-T

I have no experience in macro phtotography, but your points make sense. Most of the points apply for all type of photography as well. My take away from your video is the flash. I thought twin or ring flash will do the trick. Just regular flash with diffuser surprises me. I will need try it. That would save me money since I don't need to buy expensive ring flash.

Great tips I do somewhat disagree with the ring flash comment. Yes! The twin light flashes are better as you have better control of diffusion. Yes, ring flashes often produce ugly images but they also help with some awesome images. I do intend to move to the Canon MT-26RT this year though as proper diffusion takes your macro images forward
