Three great points, I’d add one more which has helped me enormously - keep moving at address. I had so many swing thoughts, especially with driver, that I was rooted to the spot at address. For me, the best way to ease tension is to shift my weight from side to side and waggle the club a little. Having this as part of my routine has worked wonders.

Nice vid Micah! The ground force is the hardest for me to get.
@chosen1one9309 ай бұрын
Ground force doesn't work like people think. Just standing on the ground you put a ground force on the ground, it happens all the time, just because you swing doesn't mean you put anymore force into the ground. The tricky part, earch is made up of different soils, rock, sand etc. Not every soil acts the same, and especially or wet soils, a percentage of the force is lost in the ground. Thatch, the layer of ground right above the soil acts like a sponge especially if it's wet, to thick. There is a lot of factors. Ground force will naturally occur and be used as energy in your swing. If you hit the ball 290 to 330 depending on roll etc what's the point, I regularly shoot 68 to 72 depending on the course and I would never mess with my swing or try to do something different when it works so well. Micah trying to teach so many golfers with random tips, it will only hurt more golfers than help. Having one teacher, you like and trust is the only way.

@micahmorris The tip about relaxing and not tensing on the backswing, to coil and explode in the downswing is something that doesn't get spoken about in so many other videos. I've just practised exactly that this morning. Ball striking and distance the best I've ever hit a ball. I didn't realise how much tension was in my backswing till this video. Thank you brother!! Excellent video and something slightly different from the videos I've watched online.

Definitely gonna try the ground force component. I’m scratch. Hover around 270-280 off the tee. But I know that I don’t use the ground nearly as much as I could be. I’m very much a feel player. And nothing has “clicked” yet in respect to using the ground. Your description (coupled with seeing it) may just be what I was needing. Will get on my launch monitor tomorrow and give it a shot! As far as the other tips, also good stuff. I’ve always had a strong grip. So no issues there. But tension in the backswing is something I only picked up on in the past year or two. Was playing a practice round before a tournament and just had this thought to take it back longer and more freely. Made a noticeable difference (picked up a good 10-15 yards of carry). I still catch myself forgetting to do this. But this season I plan to really work on making it a natural part of my swing.

Have you ever played tennis? A forehand swing, a good one anyway uses the ground. Baseball too, or throwing a good uppercut in boxing. I found the easiest way to understand ground force and then incorporate it was by cross training in other sports. Learning a few fundamentals can go a long way mate. Once you understand the principals they're not too difficult to apply! I'll bet you're a much better golfer than me, so please don't assume I'm trying to teach you how to suck eggs. That totally depends on the person and your swing - look up optimal launch and spin for your club/ball speed and then use that, increasing loft on your driver will give you higher launch and more spin and decreasing loft will lower launch and spin.

I've started playing golf at a young age and incorporated these tips into my game naturally overtime without instruction. I also hit the ball pretty far for my size and preach these same points to my friends with less experience when they want to know how I generate power. The first 2 points you made are pretty easy to follow, but from my experience, they seem to struggle with understanding how to use the ground properly. You also can't teach quick twitch muscles. You either have them or you don't and they also play a small part in generating club head speed.

I've been working on a tension free swing. I really like you saying about working on getting to the top without tension. Some days are better than others but sometimes my backswing is toob fast, i over swing back, and then I'm braking the club with arms and wrists. Makes me bounce in and out of transition too fast. I'm going to work on this. Thanks bud

Spectacular video Micah. I've been stuck at ~113 club speed and ~171 ball speed for over a year and fighting a push exactly like in the beginning of the video because I was trying to weaken my grip. After 30+ yrs of hacking away , I can attest to strong grip being key .. it’s like a first step for me ,@ times I have my right hand almost underneath the club (feel and look) … then if that’s not enough I put separation between hands (like an 1” at most ) and drop my back foot half a shoe distance behind me with ball at front foot … if this isn’t to much /overcorrecting the ball goes a country mile dead straight …. But , since I’m adjusting to offset that days swing error I can also have a snap hook or a knuckleball type shot that maybe goes 100 yrds about 4 feet off the ground if I happen to swing correctly…. This is my torture

His videos are really entertaining, but 4 errant tee shots in a round really blows up your score. His recent video that had him trying out for a tourrnament and he shot an 86. I felt really bad for him because I was rooting for himI think on 14 holes he had pars or better, but those 4 holes ruined his round. With a neutral grip the ball would curve slightly right or left and he would rarely miss a fairway. I really wish he would make a video where he plays 18 holes with a more neutral grip!

The grip aspect isn’t going to work for everyone unless they’re already hitting right with a weaker grip. It’s just about address when you make contact. It definitely is a great tip for anyone with a weaker grip that does hit right though. If someone has a stronger grip and still hits right, they obviously an issue at address and fixing the grip won’t change the fact that they’re holding the driver at address incorrectly or open the face through the swing with a stronger grip.

Watch the grip portion right in the beginning. You will see when he goes from hitting it right with a weak left hand grip and then goes to show you how to hit it straight with stronger left hand grip there has been some editing done. I'm sure this is because when he changed it to a stronger grip he still hit it off the planet. It would be so much more real if he would just leave that portion of the video in there. We don't expect everybody to hit it straight every time. And after watching him ply we definitely don't expect to see him hit it straight lol the time. He's no George or Grant. Anyway I just wish he'd keep it more real.
