the big overraise is a play that seems difficult to formulate a strategy for, in terms of when/where and why, esp for those of us who don't have our noses buried in a solver... that would seem to be one good reason to fiddle with solver outputs like you are always doing. really enjoyed this one, thx!

You don't have to use solver to have a rough idea for this, simply check some of your strongest and weakest hands on the turn if your opponent takes a passive line which usually signifies marginal hand.

@@danmartin9086 fair bit more fold equity generated in early MTT stages depending on sizing. The relative BB at this stage makes his range way more polarising than just a normal raise. His range doesnt include 2 pairs, maybe not even sets. Purely top of value (ie straights) and bottom (airballs)

Tossing the timebanks is a legal angle shoot. By performing these physical, visible steps of thinking he has a decision, he's trying to intimidate his opponent in disguising his weakness. A weak opponent would have give up already. This is all part of the performance, and i would not be surprised that while using the timebanks he was just thinking of what he was going to do for his vacation in a few weeks or such. His decision was already taken. The cheapo blue mask is also part of the theater.

Look at the weight of the hands like TT-KK (you can see it for TT at minute 11:36). Its .... e^-8 or sth. = basically 0. That means that for the very few times you ended up bet-calling turn with these hands you apparently have to bluffcatch river alot. Kind of an analogy to the old wisdom: "When you play against people who fire three barrels and you overcalled the turn, you also have to make some very uncomfortable river calldowns or else you will get destroyed at non-showdown". More likely though is this: The solve is not 100% accurate, we probably see a small error here. If its really perfectly solved than these hands are never calling turn and this situation doesnt occur. Now i made a similar comment in another video and maybe thats the reason why the programm now has a weight bar. Move it so that all combos < 1% are removed and it will be alot less confusing. This is also really important for the EV-Regret number, the EVR (when simplifying your strategy to one action for the entire range) can be unintuitively high if some almost infinitely low freq. combos prefer a certain action. But this will simply skew your analysis of a spot since its likely due to a small error that the combo is even relevant.

The more I think about the Schindler hand the more I'm questioning how good Adammo's play was. I feel like Jake's betting range is pretty polar, right? QQ is almost the bottom of his value betting range since Addamo has 99-QQ often himself. Solver has Jake betting hands like 6x-7x and 88-TT but facing Addamo I'm not sure people are actually betting that wide. The other, much larger, portion of Jakes range is Kx, nutty slow plays, and backdoor floats that missed. I guess if we assume Jake can fold some Kx then Addamo's X/shove is better, but idk how realistic that is. The other part of Jake's range is air and Addamo's hand beats air. I just feel like Addamo is targeting such a small part of Jake's range. He could be exploiting something tho? That's always a possibility.
@Demondoink1
@Demondoink1 3 жыл бұрын
i get what you are saying, but it just doesn't really matter a ton because he still needs bluffs regardless. what is the alternative, to never bluff? that means that Schindler can safely bet/fold a hand like KQ or KJ. so yeah, some spots in poker you are kind of spewing when you opt for the bluff (as there is a high likelihood of being called) but you have to do so regardless otherwise your opponent can just fold every time. exploiting in these spots is overrated. it's not really common in large river bluff catching spots that you are exploiting your opponent, its usually in spots on earlier streets when they do things such as misconstruct their ranges and then over fold. on the river they tend to have a fairly tight range once multiple bets have gone in, and even nits are prepared to call down light if they think you are buffing (at least that is the case with me). my river bluffs are probably -EV this year, but it means i get called more often with value bets otr.
@isaiah5217
@isaiah5217 2 жыл бұрын
Addamo has made non-GTO exploitative plays at final tables before. I think the main impetus behind the bluff is the icm pressure he can apply as the big stack, believing Schindler will not call without a boat, blocking 77, and the passive line Schindler took esp. the check back on the turn

Dnegs made a classic NiT mistake. Calling based on hand strength in such a polarized spot. A6,A7,A8 are much better calls. The tighter the ranges the less raw equity is important. And if raw equity isn’t imp then obviously it’s based on blockers.
@tomfritz6257

true, i do think daniel isnt overlooking better calls these days after a lot of hu and range work. i think he i just caught up in dynamics and thinks michael is overbluffing the 64, 63, j8, 108, 79, 78, 76. 98 ,96 and that is a rough estimation. because you need him to be bluffing 75% of the time, and thats a lot.

@@tassv5909 You make a good point. If there are multiple options, you also have to choose the right frequency according to GTO. If you are deviating (being more aggresive), it should be either because you are opponent is not calling enough against the aggressive option and you are bluffing more or he calls too much and you are valuebetting. From a balanced standpoint there is no reason to bluff and valuebet more, so your "good hands gets paid off the most".

@@jakobschmidt274 Im pretty sure the first hypothesis you said is not correct in this case. Because for example AT is 100% better than TT on all fronts, so you only start to call TT when you are already calling 100% of AT...Im pretty sure of this. Now, i agree with the second part. It is very likely an accuracy problem in the solver or not low enough exploitability (they are the same for the purpose of this topic i guess...) i dont have this software, i dont know too much about ev regret, but i would imagine it works with weights and maybe is robust vs this problem. I also dont understand why in the video he doesnt think its strange this situation even after talking about this results. Its kinda obvious it might be a problem, specially to him that is used to view the weights and as you said they are really small...

Having those in the customized range, I believe the 57o hand would raise more often rangewise, even if we don't deviate the strategy of Addamo to a tendency of higher percentage of bluff.

Good vid but I disagree with the Negreanu hand. I´ve watched alot of Addamo online and live, he is unbalanced when he overbet jams especially like 3x-4x pot but he gets paid off because he is considered "capable" or "willing to bluff off his whole stack". This is flawed logic. In the biggest spots he overbet jammed against DNegs and Bonomo, he had it. Its the same online too. Not that it matters that much anyway, since he is in a league of his own right now.

The AK bluffcatch is really bad. Good analysis would talk about why solver prefers to call TT-KK at a high frequency (block 5xs). Just because solver does something at a frequency doesn't mean it's the ideal action...2.5% call on the river even against a maniac (and maniacs have nothing on solver for aggression level) won't make much money. With ICM even with this being Level 1 it can easily be a fold in a tourney. If you think about/look at all the bluffcatchers Daniel arrives to on the river AK is one of the worst.
