Love theme / song of the Godfather is made of two parts... First part called Speak softly love. Nino composed it before the movie. It plays when Michael is walking through Sicily with Calo and Fabricio. He is thinking about Kay. He wipes the tear of his left eye. Don Tomassino's car pulls up. He wants to take him to his house where Michael has been staying but Michael wants to go home to US. Michael:" When can I come back home did Sonny say "? Don Tomassino:" Sonny said your enemies know that you are in Sicily ".... Second part Nino composed for Godfather. It's nameless melody. It plays when Michael is sitting in a car and going to court the girl... Coppola said " It has an African sound, archaic Sicilian, Arabic sound".... There is nothing romantic about the melody.... bc it represents lust, thirst for physical act of love ... Thunderbolt is not romantic feeling which is why her father ran into his Cafe when he realized that chick filled in all the right places was his daughter. Thunderbolt is eraction, sexual arousal. There is no sex before marriage in Sicily so to satisfy his desire he has to marry her. He was warned right before he met her that his enemies had found him. Everybody knew he was in Sicily noone knew where....... He chased Apollonia in the middle of the mafia war, conned her into marrying him at the hight of the danger and killed her with the wedding.... because he didn't CARE. He knew he was putting her in danger and he said nothing. When danger he put her in came.....first he had sex with her. Than he stood on a balcony and told Fabricio to take her father's house until its safe. He didn't even bother to take her himself. When Kay was in danger....he locked her up, put her on house arrest ,surrounded her with army with guns. He sat down with Tom Hagen and told him " I'm trusting you with the life of my wife and children"... She died he came home and told Kay he loved her and cared about her. Kay left he got diabetes, aged over night, stopped smoking, drinking, killing, never took the ring of his finger or touched another woman for the rest of his life....

Not one romantic song was associated to Apollonia or was playing during wedding. After sex there was no music playing, not even at the moment when she exploded . That is bc her death ment nothing to him....

Michael after Apollonia died. He came home bc his father could no longer guarantee his safety. He is speaking to his father in the backyard " Pop, what about Sonny. What about Sicily? If we don't respond isn't family gonna be weak ".... Not even mentioning her, not even saying her name let alone addressing her as his wife. He is worried about status of his family. So, what about Sicily? Well, Barzini tried to kill him but he got away. I wouldn't behave like that if a dog with flees died bc of me, instead of me, in front of him... Michael after house got attacked in gf2. Kay didn't die but almost. Michael sat on a train that very same night without even changing his clothes and went to NY to speak to Frank. In that same house, his old father's house this time screaming bloody murder " Did you hear what happened in my home, in my home in my bedroom where my wife sleep and where my wife sleep and where my children come to play with their toys. In my home. I want you to help me get revenge ".... Yeah..... to those with functioning brain enough.

He threatened to murder her father if he tells anyone about him hiding there. He didn't give a fuck if she knew he was a criminal hiding from the police, coming from the mafia family. He never told his parents he met her, noone knew he got married. He came into her house disheveled and with armed bodyguards. He never looked at her during wedding. He didn't come to her house to speak to her, get to know her, for her to get to know him.... He came to court her with presents.... There is no sex before marriage in Sicily so to satisfy his desire he has to marry her ..... he made her an offer which she goldigger she was couldn't refuse. And it worked... " Wedding was set up in two weeks bc she thought he was rich ".... sentence from the book perfectly captured in a movie by Coppola, to a detail. He loved her sexually. Physical act of love was the only thing between them. Or as Coppola said " This is NOT a prince speaking "..... when he was commenting moment when Michael spoke to Vitelli. Well, duh...... Just like it was stated in that one line at the end of the song that reminded of her " I thirst for love and she thirst for water ".. That is what happened to him.... he was thirsty for love so he took it. He drank. We call that fucking but that would be too vulgare for a movie He didn't love her with his heart which is why he was thinking about Kay right after he was done " loving " her. Michael:" I spent many nights in this room thinking of you " Kay :" Than you got married " Michael :" I still thought about you ".... He didn't care about her which is why she is dead. He chased Apollonia in the middle of the mafia war and killed her with the wedding. And than moved on as if she never existed. Michael doesn't even have guilty conscience over her death. When mafia war began Michael pushed Kay away from him and his family. He didn't let her anywhere near them. He did it bc he loved her and cared about her. He brought Kay back into his life only after he made sure it was safe for her, after he made plan to legitimize the business and execute all the families so no mafia war would ever happen again . He operated his face bc of Kay, stood the godfather to Connie's kid bc of Kay, threatened sitting US Senator bc of Kay, killed his brother bc of Kay..... He turned himself into a savage animal to protect Kay so what happened in Sicily wouldn't happen to a woman he actually loved. Especially after his father gave him advice " Women and children can be careless men can not "... " Kay I did what I could to protect you from horrors of this word " ' Why was I so feared. What betrayed me was it my heart or my mind "....

What contradicts your theory is in part 3 Michael only remembers Appolonia and I thought the movie made it clear that he never loved kay

@@rosemc2 What your statement shows is that you have no ability to comprehend the movie. Michael came to Sicily and didn't even remember her until THE VERY END OF THE SONG ... Michael's son decided to memorize a song to thank his father for supporting his music career. First half of a song speaks about man who is awake in the middle of the mafia night, he can't fall asleep bc he wants his woman back. At that moment Michael is thinking about Kay, at that moment Apollonia was nowhere on his mind. " Kay, every night here in Sicily all I dream about is my wife and children and how I lost them. Don't dread me any more Kay I love you " says Michael to Kay later in the movie, in the same house where he held Apollonia. Only at the end of the song ,when lyrics of the song said " What I thirst for love She thirst for water ".... remembered her. Thirsty for love means he needs sex Thirsty for water means YOUNG . That is why he remembered her. That is what happened to him.... he was thirsty for love so he took it. He drank . He loved her ..... sexually. He takes off glasses and puts his head in his hand. ....ooh dear God moment. This is a signature Michael's gesture he made throughout entire trilogy when he is stressed. That is how he reacted when he found out about Fredo's betrayal, after Kay told him Anthony knows about Fredo etc. Michael is diabetic, he has problems with eyes and by the end of the movie he will be almost completely blind. Mary storms out. Michael puts on glasses and opens his mouth. Coppola explained in an interview ... that is the sign Michael is displeased. He doesn't like what is about to happen. Conversation he had with his children wasn't emotional moment but attempt to convince Mary not to sleep with Vincent. She was beautiful..... which is why he had eraction. Wonderful is a word that doesn't appear in a book but he told Kay she looked wonderful at the beginning of the movie. He loved her sexually.....physical act of love was the only thing between them. We call that fucking but that would be too vulgare for movie or conversation with his children. He didn't feel anything for her in his heart which is why he was thinking about Kay while being married to Apollonia. Kay came to Sicily. Michael takes her to a same house where he had sex with Apollonia. @@rosemc2 So Michael takes Kay into a same house where he had sex with Apollonia. They parked at the same place where Apollonia blew up. They passed by her monument as if she was nothing. He took her to a same room where he slept with her to tell Kay he was thinking about her while being married to Apollonia. Conversation in that room went slightly different In the script. In a script Michael and Kay walked into that room. Michael sat on a bed and said " I lived two years in this room thinking of you " Kay :" Than you got married " Michael:" Better to marry than to burn " Michael gets up and looks through the window and said " I never forget you, I still dream about you "... Both in a movie and in a script they went into other room began speaking about their lives as if Apollonia never existed. Michael puts knife to his neck and says " Give me an order "... which is amazing bc in the book, at the end Michael calls Kay his Don " You are my Don"... Michael puts the knife down and says " You were in the danger what could I do. Later our children were in danger what could I do. You were all that I loved and valued most in the world and it was all for nothing....I'm losing you, I lost you anyway you are gone. Don't dread me any more Kay, I think about you every night. I love you"... They are declaring love for one and other... A man walks in to tell Michael that Don Tomassino had been killed. Kay hears him plotting vengeance so she left Michael sits next to Don Tomassino's casket and says " Goodbye my old friend. You could have lived longer I would have been closer to my dream ( bc that is what Kay is to him). Why was I so feared, What betrayed me was it my heart or my mind ( yet another proof Michael only loved Kay woth his heart). You give me one chance to redeem myself and I will sin no more." For Kay he gave the position of godfather and asked for redemption. Additional proof that Michael only slept with Apollonia while Kay was love of his life Coppola showed through opera Rusticana at the end of movie during which Michael and Kay " reunited " again. In the end Michael got happy ending. He just never got a chance to live it.... after Mary was shot Coppola showed you why. Someone killed his child just like he murdered someone's child and Kay was gone like a dream she has always been. Apollonia was a child ( no more than just a kid) who he chased in the middle of the mafia war, conned her into marrying him at the hight of the danger so he can satisfy his thunderbolt aka eraction and killed her with the wedding.

Michael murdered Apollonia qnd he doesn't even have quilty conciences that he killed her. " Father I betrayed myself, I betrayed my wife. I killed men, I had men killed, I killed my brother . I'm beyond redemption "... Words that Michael told to priest after conversation with his children. That is what Michael thinks about Apollonia....that she is a sin as bad as killing his brother. He doesn't have quilty conciences that he killed her but he does have quilty conciences that he slept with her. Someone was taking photos of Apollonia Michael during their wedding, wedding during which Michael was completely detached and never looked at her. We see those photos in gf3 But Michael wasn't flipping through them. She died and he took off his ring, and went to US. He didn't take any of her photos with him. He did take all the photos of him and Kay with him after he moved from Neveda to NY. She married another man yet he is keeping her photos all over his house, writing letters to his children asking them to convince Kay to come so they can see each other. She killed his child and didn't come to his mother's funeral and he never divorced her. Apollonia died he came home and told Kay he loved her and cared about her. Kay left he got diabetes, aged over night, stopped smoking, drinking, killing, never took the ring of his finger or touched another woman for the rest of his life. He was thinking about Kay while being married to Apollonia. He was thinking about Kay right after she exploded. He was in Sicily, in Palermo on his way back home and already wondering whether Kay thinks about him after two years of exile in Sicily.... that was registered in a book The Sicilian, sequel to The Godfather

Coppola commenting scene when Kay came to visit Michael in the hospital after heart attack. " This is rebuilding what means to Michael the most, what he values the most. I have no doubt in my mind that he really loved Kay despite his narrow minded Italian upbringing ( meaning despite the fact that she aborted the baby). We are dealing with something that is the only real thing in the story of godfather. Michael and Kay loved each other, love each other and will always love each other . Michael doesn't care about business or winning against other families. All he cares about are issues of the heart ".. Coppola commenting moment when Michael spoke to old Vitteli " This is not the prince speaking....I mean really ".. Well duh.... that is bc Apollonia was only sex. He compared Michael and Kay to Penelope and Odyssey while commenting gf2 . He threatened sitting US Senator bc of Kay He operated his face bc of Kay He killed all 4 families bc of Kay. He stood the godfather to Connie's kid bc of Kay He killed his brother bc of Kay. All love songs are about Kay including beginning of B. TERRA Both Michael and Kay loved other people they were both married to other people but they didn't LOVE other people bc they are love of each other lives. When Vincent broke up with Mary he told her " Go love someone else ".... Michael's favorite song in gf3 in To each its own by Livingston performed by Johhny Fontana at the beginning of the movie while Michael qnd Kay are standing in front of his office speaking with their photos hanging all over his house. It's a song about man who wants his woman, his love back even though she is with someone else.
