I've been watching many versions of this and other Che songs from 'Evita' in the last few days. But I think Michael's version of this particular song is the best in terms of summoning the indignation/irony of the character when speaking about Evita. Too often other actors approach this as a love song from start to finish; Michael gives us a very clear notion of the irony in his words from the start.

I think your missing the whole point of the character Che. he is an 'everyman' character representing all of the people, those who loved her and those who were cynical of her and most importantly those who saw her as a saviour but then felt let down.

Fantastic performance. The song could have been written for the ridiculous outpouring of 'grief hysteria' that followed the death of Diana. Oh what a circus that was.

I don't know if you're a longtime fan of Michael, but this is not a recent performance. As far as I know he had a couple of his own tv shows back when he was in his late 20s or early 30s, and he just turned 59.
