Well known as Swoop and Sideswipe on the original Transformers, and Duke and Major Bludd on the original G.I. Joe (among others), Michael Bell is not shy when it comes to sharing advice on how to become a voice actor. Here, he discusses something he once said, and reiterates that advice.
Michael Bell's animation credits are many including Lance McClain and Sven Holgersson in Voltron: Defender of the Universe; The Riddler in Challenge of the Super Friends; Drew, Chas, Boris in Rugrats; and Quackerjack in Darkwing Duck and DuckTales (2017).

Former actor and V.O. artist here. He's *dead on-target*. No exceptions. Having a "great voice" might be groovy enough for ONE character or for recording certain materials which do not require characterization or emotional inflection. But if you want to convey anger, love, frustration, confusion, elation, drunkenness, wild haste, calmness, command, panic, seduction, or anything substantial... ALL WITH YOUR VOICE ALONE... trust me, yer gonna need skills, not just the vocal chords with which you were born.

My intro to Mr. Bell was watching reruns of Three's Company when his character was a dance instructor that tried to get handsy with Janet. I believe that was just before I heard him on Voltron & Transformers. I was super young but I remember. Of course I didn't connect the dots until decades later.
