I can dig it, just following him is epic. Btw, there's an audio clip of you playing Giant Steps up here on KZbin, you're just completely crushing it, one of my favorite solos on that tune ever...

you both sounded so wonderful here, I actually found this clip originally listening to recordings of you. The contrast in approaches is beautiful, the band really seems energized here. David's comping is incredible during the solos. Love the rubber Link sound, always will.

Seamus' solo is stunning. Think about it. He was 29 or less, and played right after MB, which at that time was the most established and imitated mainstream tenor jazz player. Quite a challenge, isn't it? Even more for an unknown emerging tenor, like Seamus at that time. After a typical muscular and "aggressive" MB solo Seamus is able to create a totally different atmosphere, starting with thin simple ideas eventually elaborating and developing them with total mastery and style. What a musician!

29 is actually old for a jazz player. Mike Brecker was 21 when he joined Dreams with Randy and Billy Cobham, Randy Brecker had already recorded his record "Score", and Charlie Parker was in his early 20's, Miles joined Bird when his 21. I know Seamus, and he's one of the most incredible saxophonists of the modern era, his long practice hours, similar to Mike who practiced 11-15 hours a day, is the path which gave Seamus the skills to play after Mike's solo. It takes courage to play after Mike Brecker, and he's clearly up to the task. I knew Mike Brecker also, and his power and confidence here, playing through a tune it seems like he is learning the sub changes written in on the spot, is nothing short of amazing. 5 stars for Seamus and Michael.

Seamus It's truly a super talented and gifted saxophonist and musician. I think Brecker recognize that. Blake is an extraordinary saxophone player He had nothing to worry about. He's outstanding this sort of reminds me of the boxing game. Your talented upcoming fighter and you meet your idol. And you know what you have to do. And you do it.

i've been a lifelong brecker fan, maybe i don't "know" enough to say who kills what, but it's like the sorrow for mr. porkpie hat's loss bleeds through, right when both tenors are wailing near the end. this is my "semi-official" intro to seamus blake, viva both tenormen!!!

I gotta say I saw this video for the first time years ago and I thought at the time that Seamus Blake played by far the more meaningful solo, his playing is mature far beyond his years. Hearing it again today confirms my original thoughts. IMNSHO I think Seamus Blake comes away with the honours on this one and WTF is it with the piano player's head. Why do guys figure it's necessary do that when they play? Bird never jumped all over the place?? It's interesting the guy who had the most to say ( SB ) just stood there and made a definitive statement. Great tenor playing Mr Blake... You sure showed them..

Wow-- catfighting aside, this is a great video. Seamus plays perfectly with Michael-- instead of trying of follow Brecker by pretending to be Brecker, he follows Brecker with his own approach and vibe, very authentically and beautifully. Really good job, man, and great music. Two jazz saxophone geniuses.
