Michael Brecker was and still is the player that made me switch from alto sax to tenor sax in Middle School. Now a senior in High School and auditioning for music school, he remains my biggest influence. You will be missed dearly. The band in Heaven is gonna be groovin! Have fun, and say Hi to Trane and all the other greats for us down here. RIP

It's like he's breathing, speaking, crying, laughing, whispering, and screaming through his horn. It's like there is no horn there at all. It's pure genius.

I still am deeply sad that he is gone. I've played saxophone for 16 years but could never even HOPE to be anywhere close to as good as Brecker was. RIP, man.

Well, yeah, he was one of the greatest sax players of all time, but I mean in the overall music world (with all genres included) he was lesser known than he should have been. He was a lot better than most musicians out there today.
@AsherSax15 жыл бұрын
There are three things that make Mr. Brecker one of the best and most underrated musicians of all time. 1.) He wrote that song! 2.) He can play that song! 3.) He memorized that song! Bravo to Mr. Brecker, that was phenomenal. I'm gonna try to play that song, but no one will ever be better than Brecker.

Yeah, Michael!! I was so fortunate to have seen him many time in many venues. Saw him at the old Yoshi's and when he got to DC Blues in the set, he was breathing fire! My friend and I just laughed so hard I though we were going to suffocate. Never forget it. Sounded like he was firing a 50 cal. machine gun. A blue one. Cat could play the horn, no doubt...

If you watch different performances of this song or listen to different recordings you can tell that most of it is improv. He has the basic idea the same, jumping overtones and octaves. but it isnt the same in any of them. The fact that he could come up with this, and it being different every time is beyond me. but what am i saying, its Michael Brecker we are talking about. Perfection in human form!

Um, I don't know about that. I got the notes to this very performance. The exact notes, not improv. He might have, but he still had a very complex idea of how the song should be played. So not really improv I don't think. But maybe.

good tenor style? his improvisation ALWAYS reloves around pentatonic psuedo bluesy lickys. he is neither inventive nor innovitive. not to mention the lack of ability to play IN TUNE!
