Exactly players now pay attention to their percentages . They purposely don’t shoot or shoot after the buzzer at the end of quarters on full court or half court shots so it doesn’t effect their shooting % . Just like end of the game running out the clock when your not shooting but going to get a shot clock violation. They pass it to one of their teammates so they don’t get the turnover.

When he says he would shut down Reddick he has a career of performance, and rings, to back it up. That wasn't arrogance, that was confidence based on accomplisment. That gave me goosebumps when Coop taked about their immense respect they had for the Celtics, and the respect the Celtics had for the Lakers. You want to hear that as true, non-hating fan. I lived it and watched it, and I watched West, Goodrich and Chamberlain for the Lakers battle the Celtics Havilicek, Jo White and Cowens a decade earlier. Why do athletes have to have some kind of loyalty just because a team drafted them? Imagine you were coming out of high school or college and there was a draft for everyone. You've shown some skill in mathematics and you're skills in customer service were noticed as you worked your campus job in the cafeteria. So early in the second round, you get drafted by Dairy Queen. Do you think you should have to work at Dairy Queen forever or would it be completely unreasonable to expect you to never take a better offer because you would be showing disloyalty to the customers? Because that's what you're demanding of athletes. Don't like salaries, stop watching. If no one is giving their money to these teams, they will no longer be able to pay those salaries you're offended by (still not really a fair share of the ridiculous revenue these teams bring in as a result of those athletes).

NBA back then man. We had intense rivalries between Boston and the Lakers, but also Boston and Detroit. Then we got the Detroit and Chicago rivalry toward the back end. NBA hasn't had a rivalry that comes close since. Knicks and Bulls was too one sided. Bulls didn't just win the series against them, they usually did it without that much trouble. Knicks and Pacers was nice, but it really always seemed to end with Miller killing them, and the stakes weren't on the same level. I guess you could go Cleveland v GS, but that's just too manufactured for me. It wasn't about two teams that fought back and forth, it was about two teams that's went super team. The old rivalries were more organic. To use a music analogy, Lakers v Celtics, Celtics v Pistons and Pistons v Chicago were the Beatles. Organic beginnings. The Cavs v Warriors was the Monkees. Miss those old days. Larry Legend was a BEAST!!! This same description of Bird making that pass, reminds me of MJ.. he had so many counter moves and a variety we have never seen before and will NEVER see again. Those types of plays and the skill set back then was leaps and bounds above the so called more talented players of today that the media wants you to believe....

Loved this! Coop was fair but still Fire! JJ deserved this criticism. So glad to find this one! Great comment about the paint and Magic being so-so on one-on-one defense but a good double teamer. You see mediocre one-on-one defense players also check out on assisting on defense and that kills a team making a game closer than it should be.

@tchai91 Жыл бұрын
As a said to JJ on his channel, not only were the 80s and 90s more physical, but back then if you took the ball down the lane there was a serious threat that you were either going to be challenged with extreme force at the rim or you would be deliberately fouled, with the worse outcome for the fouler being a personal foul, whereas now you can see defenders deciding not to challenge to offensive players for fear of being picking up flagrant fouls or being ejected. I have nothing against either of them, but there's no way in hell that Steph Curry or Trae Young are wandering down the lane and throwing up floaters in the 80s without being put on their asses every single time until they stop doing it. And to use Derozan as an example, just because he shouts 'AYE' and flicks his legs out and falls over, it doesn't automatically make it a foul in the 80s/90s.....in fact people will start standing right underneath you until you stop doing it.

I do agree with you Michael Cooper. This guy JJ should have asked guys who played against Larry and guys who have witnessed him play or who have witnessed how games were played then (Bird Johnson and even before. Also the Jordan, Barkley, Thomas, Rodman era). The physicality and defense then we're terrific. If only these players are playing now without the physicality and defense way back then they might be scoring double their outputs and they more than deserve the hundreds of millions of dollars the players of now are receiving. Players of the past should be respected. God bless you Michael🙏.

There used to be something called "basketball glory" You have to remember during those Celtics/Lakers games almost none of those guys were actually millionaires. How lucky we were to have had the basketball intellect of the players during the Coop era. I'm a lifelong Celtics fan. I love Coop and adore Magic. That Lakers team with coach Riley was the original Dream Team. Dr. J, Mr. Abdul-Jabbar, and Mr. Russell, and the way they can explain the intricacies of this team sport is pure beauty. These aren't just smart basketball players. These are brilliant men. I can honestly say, I didn't even know of Redick until he swung open his fly trap about a great player like Larry Bird. The disrespect is shameful and completely unnecessary.
@AFC-ef4gs Жыл бұрын
There is one key point which I rarely hear anyone talk about regarding JJ's comments is that these great 3pt shooters he was referring to Steph, Reggie etc grew up with a 3 point line, it's something they have been practicing their entire lives. Larry didn't, he had to adapt to becoming a great 3 point shooter while he was already in the NBA.
