Dude, cmon, sing a real song like you did with "Maybe This Time." I want to hear YOUR voice, not this ridiculous computer filtered thing. It's when the voice cracks that we hear the human. No effects, no pitch correction, just a real voice that is sometimes sharp and sometimes flat, but always human. Can you not really sing anymore? When Max Martin first turned Britney Spears into a computer-voiced Marilyn Monroe it was cheeky and funny, but what is the use of these effects today? They are alienating; they take away the singer's uniqueness and vulnerability and disallow us from making a human connection. A few years before Michael was on Idol, another Philly legend was on the Voice. Anthony Riley was an astounding talent. As much as Bruno Mars knows every nuance of the doowop and Motown sound and vocals, so did Anthony Riley. There are just a few Anthony Riley videos on KZbin, so I can't really prove how deeply studied and rooted he was in Philly soul, but he was. Today they're doing all these music biopics about the super famous--Ray, Elvis, Dylan, Sinatra, etc. Way cooler would be a biopic about someone who struggled and couldn't quite get there but was great like Anthony Riley.
