I remember when this kind of media was ALL you ever saw of Michael Jackson. Awards, merit, charity unmatched. UNMATCHED. He was what our parents insisted we try to emulate. His music was universally "great to listen to" by our parents, and our schools. I remember this so well. I remember these points so much more than anything else I have seen in just the last 15 years. When Michael was a sixth grader at Gardner Street Elementary, I was an eighth grader at W. H. Jones Jr High and I couldn’t have imagined having a person at my school making number one hit records. I'm her today because it's Michael's birthday and I was one of the ushers at this dedication. My son attended this school and he was so elated that Michael was going to be there. My son was a huge fan of Michael and so was I so I made sure I bought him one of those red jackets (a duplicate of the one Michael wore) they were very popular then. I told my son to take the jacket to the dedication to see if Michael would autograph it. My son 's teacher was controlling the kids so he didn't get a chance to ask him but I got the jacket and stepped away from my post and handed the jacket with a felt pen to Michael and asked if he would autograph it for my son AND HE DID! My son is grown now but I still have that jacket. I don't think the event was highly publicized because for a star like Michael, there were not that many people there. There were a few inside and out but not like the whole city showed up. Happy Birthday Michael! You are legendary and that will remain forever!

Precious...I started kindergarten that year and it warms my heart to know michael returned to his school the year I started school. What a beautiful moment frozen in time and what lucky kids. If only we could go.back in time, simpler times and Michael was still here and on top of the world.

Can’t even imagine actually being there seeing him so close up in person. I’m watching on my tv and have a big giant smile on my face. So I know it had the incredible to be there in person. What an amazing human being he was 🙏🏽

I was there in 2012. It was an honor to see the school. There was so much joy that day of the dedication. Michael was so happy. Thank you for this. What a shameful disgrace when they covered his name in the post '93 hysteria. Thank heaven wiser minds have prevailed.

What a wonderful event that the school put on for the students and for Michael. How unforgettable for these children. I am also certain that Michael would have been honoured by this. It probably meant so much to him as this isn’t an honour bestowed by the music industry, but by regular people leading regular lives of which he was part of for a brief moment in time. I am sure it was special to him and I believe him when he said this was the best day. God bless him.
