No one will ever compare to MJ,what I like the most about his music is that it really is for EVERYONE. Any performance if you look at the audience is a mix of old,young,black,white,brown, Male,female... literally everybody. Just music that made us all feel good Never be another

I really love that he was not racist and yes, we his fans are proof. There will never be another MJ no offense to Jaffar because he's awesome and the best one to play his Uncle's part. In 2024 I still get goosebumps listening to his song's again not putting anyone down but everything I've seen by Michael Jackson I feel like he worked harder than most on his song's and dancing because he was always on point, the one and only King of Pop ❤

Motown 25 will always be my favourite. the intricacy and timing, as well as his speed. the way he curled his leg at the end of his kick. I used to focus on his shoes, but now I find myself equally intrigued by his hand movement. especially his wrists before he set up the moonwalk. let's not forget the spin that topped it off. the cameras were set up perfectly to capture everything. even the subtle changes in the lighting made a difference. the audience were supplying the beat throughout, ha. Michael's entire body language and energy changed the moment he put on that hat. even though he had certain markers he had to hit, the performance seemed largely improvised. the expression on his face suggested that he may have been reliving the experience of the lyrics. he *became* the song. I love the theatrics of it all.

Great point about Motown 25, MJFanGirl. I’m a huge Motown head, and I was a lil disappointed after watching the Motown 25 special in full for the first time. It was lowkey dry. The Jacksons definitely brought some much-needed fire to that show. For me, the M25 ‘Billie’ is more Michael-centric, meaning that my primary focus is him-his electricity, his charisma and allure, the newness of it all. With MSG 30, it’s more of an experience for me. Like, we ALL know what’s about to pop off, so even tho I wasn’t there, I just bask in the crowd’s excitement. I even do the “HO 🗣 HO 🗣 HO 🗣 HO 🗣” part along with the audience at home. 😅
@MJFANGIRLTV

Yes ok I’m glad you understood where I was coming from! I think it was dry too 😭😭😭 but maybe that was the vibe and then the Jacksons just changed that! (I think for the better). And yes I TOTALLY agree with what you said about MSG! It was an experience

It’s interesting when you mention that particular angle of MJ’s feet during the moonwalk. I remember in a interview he once said when he was a kid watching James Brown that he would get angry at the cameraman because they wouldn’t show his feet. I think for overall presentation I enjoy the 30th Anniversary moonwalk the best from the suitcase to the finger snap and the light appears and everything in between. The moonwalk itself I enjoy the 1995 MTV Awards even though it’s not the entire Billie Jean performance I love how he puts his hand in his pocket along with the pop and lock he does during that performance it’s just so smooth. 🔥 But that’s just a testament to his greatness and how he always evolved and always wanted to out do himself. Love the collaborations between you and Randall great reactions as always!!👍🏽

I remember crying my eyes out when he died.Wish I could join his concerts living his eras at the time I admire what he did with his art and music. I love how good hearted and how much of a great human being he was. And yet he go treated so badly as if he didn't deserve the best. I think this cruel world didn't deserve a soul like him. Both performances are great but for different reasons. The first performance was at a time where kids your aunts and uncles, mothers and fathers can sit around a large screen television set made out of wood with stereo speakers. It was something you had to plan on and something that can be enjoyed with the family. to see Michael Jackson for the first time defy gravity just blew my mind. That's something that stays with you for a very long time. The 30th Anniversary was very cool because you were ready to see him again and a man at that age could still do it

It’s important that current and future generations understand the shockwave this performance created. It not only launched Michael into super-stardom, it had a significant cultural impact. It was the first time, on a global scale, that non-black teens by the millions were idolizing a black artist. Kids in predominantly white suburbia wanted to dress like him, move like him and, most importantly, they wanted to buy his music. It was a seismic shift in the culture.

Thanks for showing the 30th Anniversary performance - I had never seen it though I did see Motown 25! He increased the time he spent on the moonwalk and I loved the way you pointed out the conductor jamming in the background on Motown 25! Several important things one must know about Motown 25: (1) The reunion of Diana Ross with The Supremes was supposed to be the highlight of the show (though that turned out to be a fiasco due to a misunderstanding between Diana and Mary) (2) in light of that, it was assumed that The Temptations battle with The Four Tops was going to be the high point. (3) The program was organized to establish Motown's value in the marketplace after negotiations to sell it fell through when MCA undervalued their worth. Michael was THE ONLY ARTIST allowed to do non-Motown material but that was the only way he would agree to appear on the special. Not only did Michael steal the show from all the other Motown greats who appeared on the show besides him but his appearance on the show led to his album outselling all others in music history but was a landmark in music history as a whole - even breaking down the racial barrier that kept Black videos from being shown on MTV!

I was just entering my teens when I saw the first performance live on The Grammy's. It was groundbreaking. Younger people have to try to imagine that almost no one has ever seen anything like his "moonwalk." Jaws dropped across the country. Everyone under 25 was trying to do it. Fred Astair called him the next day to compliment his performance.

Thank you so much for this video, I have LOVED watching it. On the Motown 25 performance, he spoke to the production team and found out where all the cameras were, so he could be exactly where he needed to be and be looking exactly where he needed to look for the perfect performance! Absolutely awesome!!!You were so lucky being there that night. I'd have done almost anything to be there. Of course the world came to a standstill the following day and the Jacksons had to pay good money to convince a coach driver a lot of money to get out of New York. Michael had an appointment in one of the twin towers at 9am on 11th September but thank God he over slept, which saved his life. I can't imagine what you guys went through then, how terrible 😥 I was also 14 when I saw Michael twice in 1988 at Wembley Stadium, London UK while he was on his BAD world tour and honestly they were two of the best nights of my life, absolutely phenomenal. We are so lucky to share the same air space with him. Youngsters these days will never FEEL like we did because no one will ever be that good again. He was and always will be the greatest performer and human being, I just wish fools gave him a break from time to time 😔 I can't remember if it was Berry Gordy or Quincy Jones that said "Michael Jackson doesn't come along once in a lifetime. Michael Jackson only comes along once" Thank you again x

The first live recording of Billie Jean is an iconic moment in music and dance history which is a fond memory from my early teens.. What a marvelous performer he was.

Just my opinion but I feel MJ was much more raw in the Motown 25 Version, maybe because it was his first time and so he put everything into it. Not saying that all his other Billie Performances were bad or anything, not at all. They were awesome because he added more dancing to it. But his original performance was something else. Just look at his feet. When he snaps his feet, it is absolutely in-tune with the beat. There is one more reason that I feel that performance is incredible. There are 2 particular moves that he does, that he never did exactly the same again (at least from what I have seen of all his other Billie Jean Performances. Even in the Victory Tour, from all the footage I found, never saw him do these 2 moves exactly like he did during the Motown Special.) In all the other renditions of Billie Jean, MJ always did these 2 moves in a more simpler way but during the Motown 25 Special, he executed the moves so fast, that you need to slow it down to see what he is really doing. What 2 moves am I referring to? The first one, right after he tosses his Fedora to the left, he claps his hands together and then puts his hands on his front hip around his bet buckle and thrusts his hips up and down a couple of times before executing a very fast leg move right before he does his faux hair comb move. In all other performances, he always does a much simpler version of this. The 2nd move, is right before the moonwalk. He crosses his legs and puts his right hand out like he is about to shake someones hands and then spins once, raises his pant legs and does a very fast leg split move and pauses right before the moonwalk. Once again, I have never seen him do it like that exactly. He always does a simpler version of this move too after Motown 25. Watch and compare both moves to all other Billie Jean Performances and you will see what I am talking about. Not sure why he never did it like that again as I have always thought they were incredible moves and so fast! I have never seen anyone bring it up either on forums or anywhere. In fact, I have never seen any impersonator, even the famous ones do that move like MJ did. I think only MJ could pull it off because I said before, he does it so fast. Well, those are some reasons why I think his Motown version is so unique.

Wow..you got to see MJ 30th anniversary show??!!I have it on tape..so glad I was in front of my TV when MJ threw down at the 25th Motown. According to Suzanne DePasse, MJ went through the routine. When he did the moonwalk during the performance, a man in the control booth shouted, "What the H....was that?!! It was a total surprise to everyone!! Never did the move in rehersal. HISTORY-THAT WAS HISTORY!! And one more thing about Motown 25..for my generation (Baby Boomers) it was the only time anyone had seen Motown artists on the stage at one time. The Jackson performance on 25 was great because ALL the brothers were there and had not performed on a special together in years. And their presentation was awesome. MJ's performance was the high point of the evening, but it was all about Motown. The one thing they did not do was to invite the Funk Brothers (The Motown studio musicians to be on the special. Without them, Motown would not exist).

I absolutely love "Billie Jean". People ask me what my favorite Michael song is and for me I just can't pick 1, I have soooooooooo many favorites. But billie jean its so iconic, it's one of my many favoites. Every single Michael song is different. He's amazing, he's the G.O.A.T baby and this video proves it. Ps. You are so incredibly lucky to see him live. It would have been my dream to see him live. I have Epilepsy so I could never see him live. Thanks for the awesome video, I love watching you guys.

Yeah Jeffrey Daniels was behind Michael Jackson moonwalking and pop-locking skill and he co choreographed the Bad video and the Smooth Criminal I'm an old-school Michael Jackson loyal...I have to give Jeffrey Daniels his prop because Michael was influenced by Jeffrey Daniels street style when it came to the dancing and Michael master that and took it to a different level to become the greatest thank you Jeff Daniels also

That was Michael's first performance of Billie Jean. He developed the performance from there. The Backslide. was the original name. Michael was still developing the Backslide. So he was apparently waiting for the moment to execute the backslide. When he did it. Everyone was surprised but me. I knew how much of a great Dancer he was, but he really evolved into this cool performer for the ages.Thriller era was the proof of that.

Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder murdered it at Motown 25 too. However, Michael Jackson's youthful enthusiasm, athleticism, and unique style stole the night. Secondly, at first, when you said you were 14 at the show, I thought you meant during Motown 25 in 1983. I was like WOW! Black most definitely DON'T CRACK Queen. But then I was like wait, she means in 2001 at MSG. Even so, you're still gorgeous!
