This film is a gem. So much exposed here. It’s amazing to me how many people have no knowledge of its existence and yet they are familiar with Smooth Criminal. I watched this daily as a kid when it was released on VHS. Truly a masterpiece.

The theme about music industry and what is all about (the hidden dark side) is here, there are hints also in his book Moonwalk, continued further on Dangerous album cover. And nevertheless even now when you have the luxury to better understand things people are resuming to the surface meanings, it's easy. Mainly the reaction to Moonwalker is the same, seems random and fun, Moonwalk is read perhaps for ,,jucy,, details. And anyway Michael was way more subtle, well-read, than people in the business.

I remember this when I was like 10 or so. I used to watch this on the TV on the VHS with our family (my dad let my brothers and I watch a lot of stuff whenever our mom left lol). We used to watch a lot of VHS stuff, but those were the 2010s. I’m young but this movie feels so nostalgic to me and my brothers, and now I’m in my first year of college. Time goes by so fast, and it was so peaceful back then. Luckily we still have so many VHS’s around, but no VHS player yet. DVDs too. Oh how time passes.

Incredible feat of cinema, not to mention totally unconventional and avant-garde. Michael Jackson was always a cut above the rest in the pop genre, never afraid to get gritty and throw in the occasion hard rock and heavy metal element, but keeping the primary focus on melodic songwriting that progresses and actually goes somewhere. Interesting to note that when Joe Pesci's Mr. Big character is hatching his masterplan to push his drugs on the world, his first task is getting the kids to stop praying in schools. Oh my, how prophetic this point turned out to be.

Even as I watch the “Smooth Criminal” segment from Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, I wish the segment could be longer than 40 minutes! Like a feature film! The things I'd like to see for a longer version are: Have a prologue narration at the start & end, Give some character development, such as Katie, Sean, Zeke, Michael & Mr. Big, A more detailed story to follow, Some more visual effects, An argument with the enemy along with 1 F bomb for a PG-13 rating with an extended fight scene, And even some more score pieces by Bruce Broughton to fit or fill in the extended runtime! And my final thought for a longer version? From 40 minutes to 115 minutes would be better!
