• ET`s first interwiev w...
I have always wanted to see this interview. The interview had taken place on February 25 1983, by Entertainment Tonight. 26 years before his
death. The video Thriller or Beat It had not been created yet; Michael had never moonwalked on stage at the Motown 25 anniversary show. The album Thriller had been out 3 months. On that day 2/25/83 Michael was presented double Platinum awards at a CBS Records press conference. The awards were presented to him by Jane Fonda..

For such a soft spoken guy, he turned into a beast while performing. He was an animal onstage.

One thing this man was, was humble. Zero arrogance even when he was top of the world.

Oh Yes. MJ was always very down to earth about it, which made him even more Great "as a whole": a sweetheart, humble and extremely talented person.
@iSquishMoths

spesfloret -- love that trait. He was always even reluctant to admit his talent was his own doing and rendered it Gods work. Very admirable, cobain had the same demeanour; even elvis. All 3 I just mentioned all died before their time due to drug habits ... Very important message to learn there about fame and money -- doesn't mean jack shit seemingly.
@spesfloret

I agree. Besides, nothing is more important (not even talent) than one's Essence/Soul, who you are (decide to be) as a human being; and in that essential highly relevant aspect, a person who genuinely cultive humbleness and is thankful (besides compassionate and generous as MJ was), is a true BEAUTIFUL being.

That will never happen again, MJ was a once in a lifetime talent. He took music to another universe musically, artistically, creatively, etc. He took dancing to another peak, and He took music videos to a whole new plateau. After MJ passed, seriously I never seen no world figure, leader, or person, get that kind of send off from the world. RIP to the greatest! Michael Jackson thank u

He was abused, mentally, physically, and emotionally, as a child. I'm sure, he grew up, hating himself and the way he looked. The one thing I did, and still do admire about MJ, is his spirit. Say what you want about him. But, he had a peaceful/loving aura. He loved everyone. No matter, what their race was. And that's very hard to do. But that definitely something, I've tried to pattern.

yep. i remember hearing that michael jackson's father made fun of jackson when he had pimples on his face. he couldn't look himself in the mirror and he would often cry in the dark while he splashed water on his face. and of course he also got beaten by his father, etc. because he was an entertainer for pretty much his whole life had no childhood whatsoever. he wasn't a very social person either because he literally entertained for his whole life and couldn't hangout with anybody his age. which was why people called him "weird" because he didn't know how people would react to his behaviour i guess. in summary/retrospect, however, michael lived a really sad and bizarre life. at the end of the day it must feel satisfying earning the greatest entertainer to ever live rank lol.

24 years old and talkin about continuing what he does and breakin records ... holy shit .. how can somebody in that age predict that he is indeed going to not only break almost every record out there in music .. but also make history and become a legend just 10 years later ... that dude was definately a gift from god .. and his talent was not from this earth..
@1969madame
@1969madame 10 жыл бұрын
xabun I agree. It's inexplicable. It's almost as if he came from some alternate universe. (don't mean this as a negative) He is outrageously talented in so many areas: singer, dancer, songwriter, actor, humanitarian, visionary, artist (his art work is beautiful). How could one person be so gifted in so many areas? It is truly mind boggling. God surely smiled on him. I have loved this man for over 30 years and will love him forever. RIP MJ

ShadowDemon1992 why do people always assume that if someone finds Bad era more attractive it's because of skin tone? As if it had nothing to do with the buckles and leather, this new confidence that he finds, the fact that Bad era was when he started the whole pelvic thrusting, crotch grab, gyrating hips etc which would obviously attract more attention. You shouldn't assume that people finding him attractive during that time period automatically has to do with the lightening of his skin.

With the voice of an Angel he was so cute and shy back in the Thriller era this was right around the time he spun out into the stratosphere and never came down. Its been almost 6 years since he left us but I know his legacy will live on for generations to come.

Cooper Becker -- and the insurmountable evidence. Phone sex that he had with a 13 year old boy from Yorkshire. Why would he lie? Got zero money and zero publicity. Semen covered sheets in hotel he shares with kids. The fact that he was abused as a child. The fact that he was broke because of paying off families whose children he abused. Did you never find it strange that he would pay off these families after he spent time sleeping with their sons? 44 year old man sleeping with children that weren't his own. You think that's normal? Put it this way. I'm 44, I'll give you a gold card and you can go out shopping for the day, max it out, in return I get to spend time with your son and he sleeps over but I promise we are just sleeping, promise. as famous as this man was, he was still so down-to-earth and had a sensual feel about himself. he wrote his songs (and sang them as well) with his gift from God and pure love. he mixed his heart and soul with music, and truly portrayed that through his music but yet still remained so humble and sweet. God truly blessed us with a remarkable man, that unfortunately, was taken away too soon. there will never be another Michael Jackson, or anyone close to him. RIP MJ

I saw this the first time it was aired on Tv- I think the younger generation doesn’t realise that MJ was a music industry veteran at this age! He knew everything about his craft and he was still young enough to be a teen idol... the megastardom wasn’t a ‘mistake’.. he worked hard and was wealthy for a decade + before this interview.

He answers these questions very thoughtfully and sincerely. He's so honest and unpretentious its really a pleasure to listen to him speak. Compare his demeanor with that of today's artists who are all about trying to put up a front and think the more ignorant they sound they more "cool" they appear to be. Michael didn't hesitate to say his gift came from God, whereas a moron like Kanye West doesn't hesitate to tell people he IS God. The contrast between the two is startling. Thank you MJJ for everything you shared with the world.

***** It was wonderful growing up a child in the 80s & a teen/young adult in the 90s. I wouldn't trade it for anything. We had the best music, the best films & the best art. Everything was better in the eighties & in the nineties. Dating & relationships were certainly more fluid and more organic prior to all the dating site and everybody with their heads buried in their cell phones. I wish I'd been around for the seventies in the late sixties to experience some of that awesomeness. ✌

***** Girl, I still don't have a damn IPhone.😂😩😇I have a Samsung Galaxy. I will say that friendships, romantic relationships, communication, intimacy, bonds, sex & everything related to love (platonic or romantic) was so much better...more true...REAL...less fake bullshit...your boyfriend didn't have the option to send some lame-ass, lazy, passive-aggressive bullshit texts. People actually SPOKE to one another. People actually made eye contact. People were living life, smelling the flowers, experiencing it all (the good, the bad, the magnificent, the tragedies). These days, with our heads buried balls deep in our phones, we've replaced reality with a caricature of reality.

You know.. he was so honest.. so humble and just so sweet. Saying he was most comfortable on stage and that he felt the music... makes so much sense when you look at how he struggled when having to try to be a normal person.. with everyone scrutinizing him and judging him and trying to get to him.. just how scary must that have been .. and he had to face it everubsingkecday from the age of 7or 8.. until the day he died... I wish for him the peace and respect that he so very deserved that he was not given in life.. will never stop missing this most amazing man..and his music and beautiful smile xx

Ha! I love this. My favorite Q&A is when after she asks, "Where did this gift come from?" He says instantly: "God!" ... Silence. The reporter doesn't want to go further into that, and instead skips it. I don't know why? I guess for religious or different beliefs or didn't want to for Michael's sake, but I loved how fearless he always was. Like he knew and humbly knew that his gift was from something more bigger than us, than him, than life and matter. God bless Michael Joseph Jackson and the gift Christ gave him.

A lot of people talk about how he faked his higher voice in public, but as a singer I can acknowledge that he was likely just saving his voice and talking as softly as possible to preserve it for performing and recording. There is no other way to have a voice as flexible and powerful as his was. Try this famous vocal coach tip: put one hand on your larynx/adam's apple and start whispering (note you shouldn't feel anything vibration from your throat), then gradually build up the volume of the whisper until you feel your voice box vibrating. THAT pitch is the pitch at which you should be speaking all the time in order to preserve vocal health. For most men, that ends up being a bit higher than normal, and for most women, that pitch ends up being lower. TLDR: we're all modulating our voices to a different pitch than is naturally healthy (or at least optimal for singing) to try and impress the opposite sex-- Michael was a professional, and beyond having to do that.

+Nick Papageorge But it wasn't like he had to perform ALL the time. Perhaps there is some truth in what you explained but I don't believe talking in a high pitched voice regularly is absolutely necessary in order to preserve a great singing voice. Other musicians who are legendary singers didn't have to speak in a high pitched voice. I think for the most part, for whatever reason, MJ was just insecure about his deep voice. I don't understand why, because I've heard his deep voice and it sounds very normal to me. But it was his life and if a high pitched voice is what made him feel comfortable so be it.

+blindthief Other singers don't sing in a high-pitched fashion. Michael Jackson spoke in a soft and high-pitched fashion because: 1) his father always told him and his siblings to speak like that. 2) He sang in a high-pitched fashion. Btw, since the early 2000ies, he tended to speak normally, because he didn't sing as much as he did previously.
