Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson didn't work together on Dangerous because Michael wanted a more "edgier" sound, which he got with Teddy Riley.

I think also Michael decided to distance himself from Quincy Jones and replaced him with Teddy Riley for the "Dangerous" to prove to the world, but most importantly himself, that he could produce/write a timeless album without Q's assistance, which he of course managed to. I love the Dangerous album and it's my favorite album. It's a pity that doesn't get as much attention as OTW, Thriller or Bad. All that thick New Jack Swing sound combined with Michael's powerful voice. It's truly a masterpiece!

I wish Quincy would show the respect that MJ deserves. I truly think that MJ surpassed his mentor and Quincy became bitter and jealous. He could have said so many good things about MJ but he always want to reduce MJ to a dancer and singer and slander him.We all know that he was the most complete artist because he could dance, sing, compose and write song. MJ is the reason why Quincy is still relevant to this day. Quincy Jones made a fool of himself when he said a few days after MJ's death that MJ didn't have vitiligo , wasn't proud of his origins and used chemical pills then the autopsy confirmed that MJ suffered from vitiligo. Plus, Quincy Jones should also stop talking shit about musicians and singers who earned the respect from the music industry. He seems to have a very big ego which became more important over time.

I would be very interested to see a MJ's biopic with his own private videos. I want to see a fair biopic and not trashy one like the Martin Bashir's documentary. Nobody can portray MJ better than MJ. I would totally enjoy seeing MJ reading books, playing with his kids, cooking because what he always wanted was to do the things we take for granted like going to the supermarket buying vegetables and fruits.

Can't really explain Q's behavior as of late, but his contributions to the entertainment industry shouldn't be minimized. He opened doors for Blacks and others behind the scenes in movies, on television and of course in music. Michael realized his power and vision, and sought him out. He's in his 80s now and is acting like a douche, but there's no denying that he is an elder statesman in the world of entertainment.

As a producer can't fault Quincy but having gone from friend of MJ at the time of his death to over the last couple!e of years defamating, besmirching and assassinating MJ character I personally have nothing but distain for the man and that's all I'm gonna say about him.If Id have bought tickets to his show on the original premise of it being a tribute to MJ and the music they created together and it changed into something else or even attended the ensuing shitshow I'd have been livid and done everything I could to be recompensed .I might be wrong but I'm sure the reason Quincy wasn't used by MJ moving forward with the Dangerous album ,etc was MJs desire to try new and experimental sounds ,work with up and coming producers and have more control over his output .Any hoo hope you are enjoying /enjoyed your vacation JD ..it's been too quiet without ya .Take care my friend 😀😀

Quincy Jones is a LEGEND. He’s arguably the greatest producer and accomplished musician of all time. His biography includes work with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Donna Summers, Al B Sure, Ray Charles, ALL OF THE JAZZ LEGENDS (without which there would be no Hip Hop), countless film scores including the Wiz (the reason there even exist an “Off The Wall, “Thriller” and “Bad”), MOD Squad tv series, the iconic theme to “Sanford and Son” and too many others to list. I know some of these legendary works and artist are well before young people’s time and therefore hold no cultural significance, but if you were around to witness it you’d understand the magnitude of who Quincy Jones actually is and why his statements about MJ amount to a legendary older brother or uncle speaking about a very talented younger nephew. He’s forgotten about more material he created that is culturally iconic than most producers have ever dreamed of creating. But he’s what, 87? He’s at a point in his life where he’s far more candid and less scripted when talking about his experiences with other artist who were also his personal friends, including his dear friend “Smelly”. If you’ve ever been around people in the industry that is exactly how the conversations are. Many of his statements, directed as critiques in bold print, are to sell papers and provide click bait. Often times the source of these stories being amplified are at the whim of MJ’s estate (read: the lawyers who are the executors of said estate) and ongoing litigation with Mr. Jones. When he refers to Mike “stealing” material it’s not even an insult. He’s referring to his unique ability to be inspired and heavily influenced by other artist, adopt from, and improve a move or a vocal styling, or musical phrase. His “SHAMONE” is directly from Mavis Staples of the Staples Singers. His open red button up shirt stage strut is Mick Jagger (who was coincidentally trying to improvise a dance movement after realizing he and the Stones had to take the stage right after James Brown and the Famous Flames on national television). His famous vocal cadence and style was a direct xerox of Stevie Wonder’s after sitting in on Wonder’s recording session and even providing background vocals with his brothers while they were teens. “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” was a direct homage to one of his mentor Marvin Gaye’s earlier hits “Got To Give It Up”, Even some of his iconic dance moves from the “The Way You Make Me Feel” short film are directly from John Travolta’s dace moves in “Grease”. Matter of fact, ALL of his dance moves are from James Brown. There are plenty of video references right here on KZbin, many of which The Godfather of Soul dances circles around him with. I realize Mike became a religion after “Thriller” with multigenerational legions of fans. It’s well deserved, but in the black community and for those of us of a certain age he is and remains a brother from a black family from Gary Indiana, who is human, he is one of us, he was flawed and definitely not above reproach. Michael Jackson is one of the greatest performers of all time because he attended the greatest school of entertainment, the late 50’s and 60’s in the black Midwest, was spoon fed on James Brown, graduated to Motown under the tutelage of none other than the Temptations, Gladys Knight and the Pips, the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and countless others. It was a perfect storm of greatness. But my people birth Michael Jacksons ALL THE TIME. That is why he remains human to us. If he were alive today he would agree with this statement. Hell, if he had stayed “home” with us he’d be alive today because WE know fame is a cruel double edged sword.

I don't agree with the assessment. I believe that if Quincy Jones had not worked with Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson would've simply picked someone else and still would've been the amazing entertainer he was. Quincy Jones, on the other hand, wouldn't have got the little bit of notoriety he does have, if it weren't for Michael Jackson and Quincy's pissed about that.

Buticia Smith. While I don't think he would have been as known in the pop canon (due to his association with MJ), I think Jones would have continued being a luminary in the jazz community as a producer, arranger and composer, which is what he did prior to working with Michael Jackson for The Wiz, and what he continued to do after the Bad album. Given that jazz is my favorite music, I respect Jones' work on that level- working with greats such as Patti Austin and Dinah Washington and Valerie Simpson. And while Off The Wall is in my top 4 favorite MJ albums (largely due to the jazz phrasing all over the album, and work with greats such as George Duke (RIP)), if MJ continued to work with Jones, his work would have been stale, especially since MJ wanted to stay in the pop canon, and Jones is traditionally jazz. So... While Jones is insufferable as a human, I will not take away from the great work he's done as a musician/producer/composer/arranger. Also, if MJ never worked with Jones, he may have never met Bruce Swedien, who is the 'secret weapon' to every MJ album.

Michael and Quincy just had this love and hate relationship which is understandable. Quincy saw Michael almost like a son and Michael at one point felt he did not need Quincy any longer. Michael however kept working with musicians and engineers that Quincy brought into the MJ signature style of music. It can create frictions and usually when two giants meet friction will always be part of the process, that's how diamonds are made.

Quincy Jones needs to take several seats. He wouldn’t have anything to produce if Michael didn't write those songs in the first place, especially the Bad album, Michael wrote nine out of eleven songs. And don't even get me started on Smooth Criminal and Billie Jean. As far as I remember Quincy didn't want SC on the album and he persuaded Michael that Billie Jean shoud have been shorter. Yes, he was helpful in a lot of ways, but he also stifled Michael’s creativity.

To be fare, Quincy has done alot of work. TV shows like french prince, the color purple... But he is DEFINENTLY known for the guy that worked with Michael. It's undeniable. The thing with Quincy is that I think he is getting old.... And when people reach a certain age they just don't give a f*** anymore. They have no filters. That's what I think is happening to him. With old age comes sometimes a very one sided, narrow way of seeing and thinking things.

Truth me told, Quincy has done some gret work prior to MJ (even though I am not much of a fan of that style) He needed MJ too to make him modern and relevant (my opinion). Yet, MJ always showed respect to people in the industries, no matter what they said about him or did to him. I do not respect Quincy anymore after his whole take down and rants about Hollywood-Music Industry greats including MJ, Richard Pryor and Marlon Brando just to name a few. A sad situation to even insult the fan like that. Yes!! Sue AEG! Go for the jugular on that. Then sue Quincy, but then again it is said he has dementia and that could be one of the cause for his bitterness. Too bad Quincy thought we forgot he got accused on television by a co host of STEALING music. Allegedly it was not a one time theft either.

OK quincy and a good producer, but he's not an artist like Michael, you have to admit quincy in the 70's he was a respected producer for what he did, but when MJ started working with him, There people started to get interested in him (besides he knows him best because he works with MJ than anything else) besides if you don't believe me will look at quincy's work against that of MJ on the albums Thriller and off the wall, these real quincy produced and MJ also produced these albums, MJ has always composed 3 songs from each album if we count all that makes 6 songs, quincy has just composed one more song in collaboration. quincy to start having eyes when MJ wanted to fly away without him (of course quincy lost his golden goose) when MJ recorded the album Bad solo, that these himself who compose the songs, basically the album Bad it was MJ's album, quincy was put aside. Especially these dangerous album that I think has been a problem between quincy and MJ, Michael wants to show who can come even without quincy and he had shown it he was just as good without him. I love Off the wall, Thriller and Bad, they are incredible albums, but the album Dangerous, musically artistically these strong, for me MJ has reached levels with this album, these simple princes at the time released the same year the album "Diamond & Pearls" these a good album, but when you listen to it you know you know it dates it, but dangerous your impression that the album has just been released. like all MJ's albums but Dangerous, these are the only MJ songs that have never been covered. I think Quincy didn't digest the success of Dangerous and Bad without him.

Quincy Jones should be ashamed of himself for not wanting to sign that guys Thriller Jacket.Shame on you Quincy Jones!!!! First Quincy diss Michael Jackson, now this?I had it with Quincy Jones.Quincy has gotten nasty since he's getting old.Screw him,he's nothing special. So what if he worked with Elton John,Frank Sinatra.Ive listened to alot of Quincys jazz albums and I sure wasn't impressed by some of those albums.Thats for sure! Quincy should appreciate the fans. For without the fans,he'd be nothing!!!! Quincy was always jealous of Michael Jackson! Fact!✌✌✌

Y’all way to toxic towards Quincy in the comments , yeah he’s a bit whack in his 90s . But he’s still one of the greatest producers of all time and has an amazing story. He helped bring MJ’s vision to life. ( He honestly would of had no input in the production of the show or name change, hes to old)

Watch the Quincy documentary. That will change your view on the guy. It did with me. Huge fan of MJ, and Quincy tho. Love the vids bro. I do agree, Q supported MJ for decades then the Leaving Shittyland doc came about and Q distances himself. Odd. Media for you, right?!

Well done JD! I'm just hurt that Quincy Jones did this to Michael. It's so not right. One day Quincy is going to give account to God on what he has done to Michael and other famous people he dogged out. Quincy is a bitter, jealous, and disgruntled old fart who feels he that can mistreat Michael and Michael's fans anyway he wants to. BTW, He's not getting anymore royalties from Michael's Estate because he's a darn gold digger and his loyalty to Michael had ended. Get over it Quincy! I pray that you learn to be humble and grateful for what you did have and Michael was your ONE AND ONLY FRIEND THAT MADE YOU WHAT YOU ARE. NOW THAT MICHAEL IS NOT HERE...... YOU'RE NOTHING WITHOUT HIM. PERIOD.

I more or less agree with your assessment. However, I encourage you to do some major research on the career of Quincy Jones. He goes WAY BACK and accomplished A LOT, and even composed major motion pictures before working with MJ. I'm disappointed in the way he has dissed MJ so much though. Very disappointing!
