@sanctuaryism3 жыл бұрын
yep that is it. it has to be elaborated on... funnily enough of all people van damme made it work well back in the day with baddie females... ie. double impact and sudden death... the women in that were masculine but attractive still with striking features and the fights were even and well done... paced well as well... you could believe them in those scenes BUT even that was sometimes a bit difficult to watch seeing a woman getting devastated by someone of skill especially like van damme. even that fight scene scott atkins did in I can't remember the movie "blood" something I think it was called... never saw it in full... only that one scene on youtube here where he has that hand to hand scene with that blonde woman... that was hard to watch for sure... pretty brutal and a bit disturbing. AND the female action hero's in the day knew their limits and the movies showed that. it has went to far with the sillyness now. suppose you could say it started with tomb raider type mainstream movies and went on from there. now there is no end to it.

I have met Micheal Jai White at my place of employment which happens to be an indoor Shopping Centre. One of my Staff had noticed Mr. White within the mall and had asked him if he would attend the Security Office so I could have the opportunity to meet with him. I was awed in shock as I saw Micheal Jai White entering my Office. The man possessed an impressive presence within the room. He took the time out of his day to greet his fan. He was extremely kind and down to earth. He didn't spend much time talking about himself. In fact, he focused more on his fans which made everybody within the room comfortable. He took some notes of our Security uniforms and had mentioned that he was currently preparing for a role where he portrays a Security Guard with "exceptional skills." He exuded an aura that inspires those around him. I was honored when he complimented me on my physique which definitely motivated me more at the gym. We actually had a brief conversation on this very same topic regarding his comment of Bruce Lee. He presented his reasoning behind the comment and made some very valid points (as discussed in your youtube video). He was not arrogant nor cocky. In fact, I found him to be very humble while he offered his opinion. We all idolize Bruce Lee. The man's accomplishments and philosphy transcends him as a legend. However, the comment made by Michael Jai White was not unreasonable. Thank you, "Viking Samurai" for taking the time to post these videos and also to Mr. Lambert for sharing his insights on the action film industry. I was heavily influenced by the 80's action stars. One example in Aliens is they didn't have to put the male characters down to build Ripley up or remind you every 2 minutes that she's a strong woman, Ripley was just a really cool and likable person.

Before Michael Jai White lift even his single foot for kicking or raise his fist for punching, Bruce would have done a thousand moves ahead, which would take MJW down to the ground, before he even knows about it. That kind of a man was Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was the epitome of functional fitness and the best fighter ever graced the silver screen. There was no one before him, and definitely haven't come anybody close to what he had done before his early death at age 32. And for MJW, size doesn't matter baby, and what matters is strength,speed and functional fitness. Also you are forgiven from the true fans of Bruce Lee. Because ignorance is not a fault, it's human. You are a fan of the mythical superhuman character and not the real man Bruce Lee. Lee might well be the best martial arts performer and was undoubtedly the most influential one ever, but he was never a proven fighter. His speed was very good, but there’s numerous real fighters that were notably faster. Despite being roughly 85 lbs heavier, a prime Ali was scientifically measured as faster than Lee and Lee himself said that Ali “would kill me” in a real fight while making reference to the size difference between the two. Australian Taekwondo 5th degree black belt Bren Foster’s kick was measured at over three times faster than Lee’s fastest punch. According to the workout cards in his own handwriting, Lee wouldn’t be the strongest teenage girl in most High Schools today. At the very least, it’s a safe bet to say that MJW was at least 4 times physically stronger than Lee was. As you brag about Lee’s functional fitness, it appears that you are unaware of Lee’s considerable habit and addiction to cocaine, acid, hash and pot. That’s been confirmed in his drug letters to his dealer Bob Baker. Lee did do some weight training, high intensity interval training and cardio before they were popular among martial artists, but a lot of cocaine addicts are extremely lean. And there’s little doubt that MJW had much greater “functional fitness” than Lee. At least if we are talking about the real man and not the mythical character. Lee was legitimately a great conceptual martial artist and visionary for his era. He was a tremendous little athlete, but far from superhuman. He was also legitimately inducted into the BLACK BELT Hall Of Fame as Instructor Of The Year for 1972, but he never even sparred, let alone fought any elite fighters. At least according to everyone who was actually there and confirmed by Dan Inosanto. So, just because you have been fooled by the fan fiction of con artists doesn’t mean that White should have to apologize to Lee’s online cult of fans. Nor do I as a 9th degree multiple systems black belt, and someone who has won a national championship in Sport Karaté, an international championship in full contact and a World No-Gi title in Jiu-Jitsu. Plus a licensed tactical trainer and a former weight class winner at the collegiate nationals in both powerlifting and bodybuilding.

In my humble opinion, what made Bruce Lee great was his fight philosophy. "Use what works, discard what doesn't, adapt to and train in other styles of fighting." Maybe not his words verbatim, but definitely the gist of his message. Back in the 60's and 70's, people were only participating in one specific style of fighting. (Mostly karate) And they thought that one specific style was the gospel truth. Bruce broke that barrier by having a few real life altercations where he realized that what he had been taught in regards to martial arts was useless in an actual fight on the street. Namely, Wing-Chun. Also, Bruce Lee didn't train to fight in tournaments and competitions (which has rules and sanctions). He trained to actually use his body effectively to hurt and kill someone. This takes a different type of mindset to develop rather than having a mindset to train for sport competitions. Do I believe that MJW can literally beat the brakes off of Bruce Lee? I can't say. Bruce Lee is dead. If he were alive in 2021, he would be 81. Do I believe that Bruce Lee is unbeatable? No. Do I believe that MJW should receive dissension for saying he could beat Bruce Lee? Also no. For some reason, people have developed a "cult-like" mentality when it comes to Bruce Lee as if he's infallible and immortal.

I think Michael Jai White needs to read/hear the testimony of people like James Demile, Ed Hart and Larry Hartsell who were all Bruce's students that became his friends and who were all over 200 pounds at the time they Knew Bruce. Ed said Bruce terrified him with what he could do, and he was completely incapacitated. James Said he didn't stand a chance and got embarassed even though he tried to hurt Bruce in their encounter, and Larry said Bruce beat him so bad that he had to become his student after he got back from Vietnam

I went to a seminar of James DeMaile and he said he was two times Air Force heavyweight boxing champion when he came out of the service and he wanted to taz Bruce up. He went and met him and started talking about fighting styles and Bruce asked him: "so how is your boxing?" James took this as a challenge accepted and launched at him. Two or three blows later he was being helped up off the floor and that's how he met his master. Bruce Lee was really my entry in to the world of Kung Fu, although not my main inspiration, it is clear to see his skill set as being other worldly when you practice Wing Chun like myself, or whatever flavour of JKD. Tbh, a typical comment from MJW who probably has never been in a real fight, or at minimum doesn’t understand the styles of Kung Fu. I have alot of respect for Michael Jai White, but what he said about Bruce Lee, in the past, was just a fail and disrespectful. Being the bigger guy, doesn't mean you're gonna win. Especially, when you're going against Bruce Lee, someone who was extremely strong for his size. Bolo Yeung, Jim Kelly, Jackie Chan, Joe Lewis (Heavyweight Kickboxer) all said, Bruce hit with the power of a heavyweight fighter, on top of crazy speed, flexibility and his fighting philosophy - Jeet Kune Do, utilizes the best fighting techniques, for the street and how to quickly disable your opponent. Michael Jai White is very, very good, but alot of moves on screen are not practical for a real life fight, of course, he would do different moves in a real fight, but he's not necessarily stronger than Bruce, he's for sure not faster and Lee was ahead of his time. Dana White (UFC President) has stated on multiple occasions, that there would be no UFC without Bruce Lee, while Jeet Kune Do is not MMA, many of the ideas are similar, except alot of what Bruce Knew and taught, you wouldn't be able to use in the UFC, because alot of those techniques would be illegal and too dangerous. Again, I like, respect and I'm a huge fan of Michael Jai White, but I disagree with the silliness that he stated in the past, coming from a man who should know better, being a Martial Artist himself. Size is an advantage, but it dies guarantee anything. Good topic to discuss. While it comes down to opinion, I think it's best to be fair and realistic, when speaking on, how a person is gonna fair against a man who created his own style of fighting, opened Martial Arts schools, taught some of the best Hollywood stars at the time, trained with Master Yip Man, who's also a bad-ass Martial Artist, jaw dropping speed and strength and constantly got better as a Martial Artist. I don't see Michael Jai White beating Bruce Lee. Michael admitted to being arrogant, his was in the moment, when he opened his mouth. Millions of humans respect Bruce Lee and was inspired by him, almost every fighting game has a Bruce Lee character. TERRANCE OUT

Okay, time to inject some facts and reality into your bullshido fan fiction. And I am not a fan of White’s and have been a fan of the real Bruce Lee and his real world accomplishments and contributions for fifty years, but I have little patience for the lack of intellectual integrity behind the mythical superhuman character. Bolo was a Mr. Hong Kong Bodybuilding Champion and an actor with a little martial arts training, but never a fighter. I love some of Chan’s movies, but he is a performer from the Chinese Opera who made it in films and whose only combative martial arts background is a black belt in Hapkido and was never a fighter. Jim Kelly won the middleweight division at one of the national tour championships (Ed Parker’s tournament) in no contact, stop/go point sparring and didn’t even win the Grand Championship there. Even I have won a Grand Championship at a national tour championship when I was eighteen before fully switching over to kickboxing and later Submission Grappling and BJJ. The only one that you mentioned that had any credibility at all as an actual full contact fighter was Joe Lewis. Apparently you don’t know the rest of the story though. Lewis never sparred and especially fought Lee. All they ever did was prearranged drills and this doesn’t just come from Lewis, but was confirmed by Dan Inosanto. Being able to nail someone hard during a drill is an entirely different thing than hitting him hard when he is fighting back. Also, Lewis has said Lee “was a great teacher and an actor, not a fighter.” Regarding Lee’s speed, his fastest punch was measured by Jesse Glover at .05 of a second at three feet, but if you do the math, that’s 40 mph. Australian Taekwondo 5th degree black belt Bren Foster’s kick was measured at 136 mph. Literally over three times faster than Lee’s fastest punch…with a kick! Btw, his build was pretty similar to MJW’s. So much for being muscular slowing you down. LOL. Lee kept meticulous records of his training and his authenticated workout cards in his own handwriting were sold at auction and were later put up on the internet. From these we know exactly how strong Lee was…or in his case wasn’t. For example, the most he ever did squats with was 95 lbs for 10 reps. His upper body strength wasn’t much better. That wouldn’t be the strongest teenage girl in most High Schools today. If you ask any expert on strength training and they will tell you that basic compound exercises like squats are more accurate measurements of strength than the silly parlor tricks that Lee did to impress the ignorant. Despite your delusions, it’s a safe bet that MJW was at least literally four times stronger than Lee. I am still at least as big and muscular as a prime MJW even in my late fifties and in my prime was a national collegiate champion in both powerlifting and bodybuilding back when they were drug testing and I was literally seven times stronger than Lee was. Lee was a cross trainer who dabbled in several systems, but not nearly in as much depth as many others before, during and after his era. Though he did have the largest public platform to advance that cause and make it popular. But even in that arena, MJW had a much broader base and in much more depth. Lee finished roughly half of the Wing Chun curriculum, dabbled in Judo, learned the Taekwondo version of the side kick from Jhoon Rhee, and made studies of Boxing and Fencing, but other than one match in High School with another High School kid, he never participated in either, other than being introduced to the fundamentals. He had some introduction to the Filipino Martial Arts by Dan Inosanto and was introduced to a bit of Savate, but never formally studied it. MJW has much more extensive training in nine systems including at least two third degree black belts. His cross training goes way beyond the simple dabbling that Lee did.

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse here but I think people really have no idea what Bruce Lee was all about. He was pure self defence. He was obsessed with preemptive non-telegraphic movement. Aka movement you can’t even really see before it’s to late. He trained specifically for that non stop 24/7 for pretty much his whole life in America. Everything he did was towards ending a fight before it had a chance to start. What do people think he meant when he said “the art of fighting without fighting”. Everything he did was about maximum efficiency and directness. His primary targets are eyes, groin, throat, kneecaps. MJW is being very dishonest and smart about how he says what he says. He’s deliberately leaving out Bruce lee’s speed, power and technique. I could kick MJW in the balls as hard as I can and even I could drop him. I could also finger jab him in the eye and blind him. I’m not trained. What do you think someone of Bruce lee’s caliber who trained this way all the time could do to him? Let’s be honest here. There were guys just as big, skilled and mouthy as MJW back in the day but they sure as hell couldn’t back up what they said. If you watch John littles interview on here with a guy who calls himself the kung fu genius. He said if someone openly challenged Bruce he’d fight them. He’d also ask them to “show him” what they could do in terms of skill if he was impressed with them and see if he could learn anything. Honestly I’m tired of having to explain this stuff. People today judge if someone can defend themselves/fight based on UFC/sports standards. It’s absurd and makes no sense. Nobody was fighting in “sports” 100 years ago. I’m talking about actual self defence. I know some idiot will bring up wrestling back during the ancient olympics or boxing. But we are not talking about this. I mean what the hell do people think Bruce lee was training for? Sports? He was well aware of his size so he deliberately trained in a way to utterly destroy bigger people. All the stuff you could ever want to find out about what Bruce was training and doing is all over the internet, books, people who knew him and trained with him, friends. I don’t know what else to say to people who can’t wrap their heads around it. Bruce lee could do things people still can’t do today. Dan Inosanto said to this days he’s never met anyone that’s been able to put everything together like Bruce did and make it work, and not only that had the power and speed he had. Why is is it so hard for people to accept that Bruce really was a freak of nature. One of a kind. There’s no need to feel insecure about it. Was he unbeatable? Probably not. But the guy was unbelievably gifted and back during his time nobody could stand toe to toe with him so I’m not really sure what makes people today think they could. MJW is no different to the same guys back in the day that would talk a lot of shit but didn’t want to fight him. Bruce lee was all about ending a fight immediately before it even gets to an all out brawl. Good luck dealing with someone who trains that way all the time, had the conditioning and the mentality for it. The fact he’s no longer here and died so young is the only reason these stupid conversations and comments even exist to begin with. You don’t get to be the most renowned martial artist of the past 100 years by being just an “actor who couldn’t fight” that’s absolutely ridiculous.

I actually read the entire comments you wrote. Normally i’ll skim through if it’s this long. I’d be honored and great to be able to write this well. I’ve heard this debate who will win if you were to put Bruce Lee vs……. I always told them Bruce would win because of his Precision, Speed, and Power. he can knock a 300 pound punching bag and have it spin over with ease. he has a 700 punch bag which he can hit and was able to make it swing back and forth. With the amount of power he has, all he has to do is hit the vital spot of a person and he’s gone. This is why Bruce Lee would not enter tournaments. He dislikes point system. In tournaments , he can’t freely express himself.

He has extensive knowledge no question I believe he can defend himself he can fight. I think some people dont like mike because in some people eyes not mine that no one knows anything about martial arts but him. He always saying this guy cant fight that guy not a real fighter the movie guys and he says always says he knows what he talking about because he trained with those champions back in the day and he trains and spars with some MMA guys today. Who knows if he beat Bruce the martial arts evovled since Bruce passing and Michael he had the benefit of being apart of the growth and evolment so he would have the knowledge in that since. Bruce was ahead of this time so I dont think anything Mike would do would suprise bruce other than the size. He way bigger than Bruce that be a challenge and he is skilled too for a big man it would be challenge for Bruce. I think the what people got made about is Mike was saying just because he is bigger than Bruce he win simply on that nothing else so who knows. In a street fight Bruce lee would have give MJW a lot trouble collecting. Doesn’t matter 100lb or more. Unless is a rule fight cuz size does matter but the real deal will always in the street. I m trained crav maga and wrestling and I weight 175 to 180lb and I fought a guy that weight 275lb. He can definitely beat Bruce Lee because he’s heavier, but he’ll never be like Bruce Lee. Also, I don’t understand how he claims to say he loves Bruce Lee and respects him but also disrespects him by calling him out on his weight and say he’d beat Bruce Lee. To me, MJW just has a big ego.
@arap82173 жыл бұрын

@maximelauj70643 жыл бұрын
@@arap8217 just because you know you can beat your “idol”, doesn’t mean you need to boast about it on TV tell the whole world about it. If you’re that confident about yourself, you wouldn’t even need to say anything to claim you’re a better fighter when your idol (Bruce Lee) is actually the one that paved the way for you to appear in Martial Films and influence you to even be a Martial Artist. That just shows how insecure you are. Also, it is disrespectful for him to call out Bruce Lee on his weight because first of all, that just shows how much respect you have for your so called “IdOl” and 2nd, Bruce Lee wasn’t your average 130lbs guy. If you study in depth about him, Chuck mentioned that he might’ve been the strongest pound for pound fighters and 130 guy in his era. So for MJ to say that Bruce was just a 130lbs guy, nothing more just shows how much respect he actually lacks for Bruce. And 3rd, great job saying you can beat someone who’s been dead for half a century now. 👏 even better, your “idol”. I bet he wouldn’t have said shit if Bruce Lee was still alive. Dude’s ego is that big
@arap82173 жыл бұрын
@@maximelauj7064 OK... Lots to unpack there, but let's see: MJW was asked if he could do it, he didn't bring it up himself. He could've said no in order not to hurt everyone's feelings, or cause such an uproar on the net, but he decided to give the answer he did. What's more, he even tried to explain why he thinks/claims that. The whole weight issue has been discussed ad nauseam, so let's just get to the core of it: Out of two fighters with considerable/comparable skill, the odds are almost always in favour of the bigger/stronger fighter. Are there exceptions? Of course, but I'm talking about the odds. If you outweigh someone by a 100lbs/45kg in muscle mass, and you know how to fight well, you have the advantage, plain and simple. That's why there are weight classes in combat sports. Again, there are always exceptions, and if the smaller fighter has vastly superior skill, they will improve their odds. Was Bruce vastly superior? Quite possibly, but we have no way of actually knowing outside of anecdotes, and a few clips. The problem is they are both martial arts actors, and no pro fighters, and although they can be very skilled, we really don't know how they would actually fare against each other as we have no direct comparison outside movies and clips. No videos of Bruce or MJW actually fighting unless choregraphed fights, light sparring and/or demonstrations. As for the "dead for a half of century" argument, that just makes no sense. First, he didn't say he could beat him now, so I don't know what you're actually saying there. If Bruce was alive, he would be 81 years old this year. MJW is 53. They wouldn't fight for real anyway, because it would be ridiculous. Maybe they would be able to talk and directly be able to compare, but to suggest that MJW wouldn't dare say anything is nonsense.
@maximelauj70643 жыл бұрын
@@arap8217 on my 3rd argument what I’m saying is: MJW represents all the egoistic Martial Artists who say they could’ve beat Bruce when the man is already dead and can no longer even reply to them. If you don’t think that’s a coward move to do and you don’t have a big ego then you’re simply in denial. No one was saying anything or calling Bruce out when he was still alive. For example, you have guys like Vic Moore coming out of the closet YEARS after Bruce’s death to say that he schooled Bruce in sparring after beating him at the speed drill contest, which there are no evidence whatsoever. And what’s funny is when Bruce was still alive, Vic never spoke up anything about it. The only time he came out was years after Bruce passed. Why? Who knows. But many people who personally knew Bruce stated that no one at the time wanted to mess with him. You also have Linda stating that there were Martial Artists like Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis etc... who would take private lessons from Bruce but today, none of them will admit they did and will instead claim that they were just “working out” together. As Linda would say in her interview: “You know, these Martial Artists have their egos. If you came to train with Bruce, then obviously you must’ve wanted to learn something from him.” Now you’re probably like what the hell does this have to do with what we’re talking about? This goes back to my 3rd argument. My point is; as a Martial Artist who say you look up to Bruce Lee and idolize him, don’t be a coward and switch up on your Idol when he’s already dead and you know he’s never gonna have his say. Just think of it like this: it would be the same as seeing Mike Tyson say he loves Ali and idolizes him but once Ali hits the bucket, he switches up on him and claim he could’ve knocked him out. Wouldn’t that be a coward thing to do? Sure would because he never boasted he could when Ali was still alive. But thankfully, we’ve never heard anything like that. Mike Tyson has always respected his idol and never boasted that he could beat Ali so there’s no question that he MEANS what he says about Ali. Whereas it’s very questionable if MJW actually respects Bruce even though he claims that’s his idol because of his ego.
@arap82173 жыл бұрын
@@maximelauj7064 Dude, I'm not gonna call a man I don't know a coward for saying one thing I didn't like 6 years ago, who are we to label people like that? By that logic you're a coward to because you're talking sh*t about him anonymously on YT. I know about the Vic Moore thing, and again, it's all anecdotal. Gene LeBell famously rendered Bruce immobile with a Judo technique and the result of that was Bruce learning Judo to use it later in movies and Jeet Kune do. If you believe Gene that is. I understand that Linda said a lot of things, and without meaning to be a jerk, of course she would say all the best about him. She was his wife, but also she wants to keep the myth around him going, because as harsh as it may sound, she's been living of the fact that he was her husband her whole life. She even backtracked on the whole cocky thing. First she said he was, then she said he wasn't etc. Again, it's anecdotal. As for the ego thing, you're kind of going too far, as you don't really know MJW, and you didn't know Bruce either. You're judging MJW's whole personality on one soundbite from 6 years ago. And same for Bruce. All your evidence is based on he said, she said. MJW famously took back what he said many times since. Ali and Tyson were friends, and even during Ali's life there were comparisons between the two. And yes, Mike never actually said that, but it's different when people are actual fighters as opposed to actors.

But I cringe every time though, when I see some 130 pound Hollywood woman knock out a 200 pound guy and they call call that shit empowerment. Here is how Linda Hamilton became a legend. In Terminator Judgement Day she becomes a badass, not because she is trying to prove that she is as tough as any man, but because she is trying to protect her son. Her character is driven by what she believes she must do. Whereas Emilia Clarke in Terminator Genesis is a badass for reasons.

There's open weight tournaments where smaller guys have beaten bigger guys loads of times so it's not always about the size ...I think weight comes into more in wrestling / grappling style fighting but Bruce would have a speed advantage and apparently was powerful for his size so I don't think white would find it as easy as he thinks ....but he shouldn't really be saying stuff about dead icons cos it's gonna piss people off ...and lastly I don't believe him when he said he wish he'd never said it ..he knew the reaction he'd get but clout chasing on the back of Bruce later is a BAD idea. I enjoy Scott Adkins last few films cos he's very tounge in cheek and he's also very athletic and white had a go at him aswell and unless I'm mistaken i dont think white fought at an elite level and won world titles so really he's just an action star like Adkins...tho I have see footage of white in small tournaments and he looked good but he just seemed to that one fast kick and that wouldn't cut it in modern mma cos there way too fully rounded these days
