So basically: instead of chambering the kick and having your hip already halfway fully extended, he just lifts his leg/bends his knee THEN fully extend the hips all at once! So efficient!

If there is a simple basic explanation of the underlying fundamental lessons MJW is trying to teach anyone with martial arts, is how to use minimal effort, and get maximum results, and a key to that which he also teaches is how to not telegraph your striking. He truly is a martial arts genius.

It's not the trainer but a combination of natural talent and dedication that dominates the sport. At the top everyone has the best trainers and they all do pretty much the same, with some minor differences. Trainer or manager cannot teach you the hunger for winning, cannot replicate what it means to be poor or wanting victory above everything, cannot teach a coward how to be brave etc. MJW could probably be a good trainer, but don't kid yourself thinking that if Stipe would train at MJW he would beat Jon Jones, sorry but that's just not happening.

The conceptual application for reducing the time people have to perceive & react is significant: however the power transfer chain sequence & time is changed but not increased. All you are doing is turning your hip at a different point along the strike pathway. Try the following against a heavy bag or a friend holding pads: 1) do a forwards knee strike off the back leg using both technique Michael demonstrated. 2) Now do a forward knee strike off the front leg. Fully extend in all 3 strike variations. Tell me what you noticed about the strike that had the shorter strike path length to travel & had the hip already turned slightly due to the staggered stance needed to assume a front & back leg. That is right the front knee is faster & more powerful as it is mechanically more efficient & stable to deliver a strike from that position. So for delivering strikes hard to see use Michaels technique but do not for a moment it can generate more power! Peace & Love!
@kazejah1014
@kazejah1014 13 күн бұрын
True. But Is Mike making the argument that it generates more power? I think he's positing that the opponent doesnt react to it in anyway to parry the blow, which increases its damage potential. Even the fastest most powerful can amount to nothing if your opponent can react to it to parry or evade.

MJW is an under appreciated martial artist fr. Tons of knowledge, great technique. People disrespect him cuz he never fought in combat sports and him saying he’d beat Bruce Lee, but he’s legit. I just tried this technique and I felt the power difference between the traditional front kick and this variation. It could also double as a leg or body kick check to immediate counter too once you get the hip dexterity and balance to launch it immediately after contact

Joe Lewis, 6 ft, 60lbs heavier than Bruce, full contact kick-boxer and karate champion got stopped in full contact sparring by Bruce. Signed up for lessons with Bruce. Kareem Abdul Jabber, 6 ft 7, couldn’t get near Bruce, (his words) Jesse Glover, 5 ft 8, Bruce’s first private student, local multiple time judo champion, outweighed Bruce by roughly 30lbs, became Bruce’s student because he was in awe of his speed and power. Larry Hartsell, 6 ft and at least 30lbs heavier, came into Bruce Lee’s school as a man with a black belt in Judo and over 10 years of experience in grappling as well as a strong foundation in the striking arts that began in 1961 with his training in Kenpo Karate under Ed Parker. Shortly after receiving his black belt rank from Ed Parker, he spent time in the Army including combat in Vietnam, where he served with military police I could go on, but why bother right? After all, you guys won’t actually educate yourself about Bruce Lee. You’d rather parrot disinformation and slander the guy than actual spend the time doing the research about why he actually has the reputation he does, because it most definitely isn’t from making movies for a year and a half in Hong Kong from 1971 to 1973. This is why JON would dismantle TOM ASS-SPINALL. He implements elite techniques from elite martial artists into his game plan and executes it with precision. It doesnt take him long to learn it. He is a top tier student of the game. A lot of people think Jon has slowed down and isnt the same Jon he used to be in the past. And while this is true, he is light years better than his previous self. The reason he has slowed down is because Jon now fights out of his "flow". This means he is very patient now, and knows what to do in almost every situation and how to react to it. Its why he dominated Gane and Stipe so quickly and efficently. While barely moving fast. Bruce Lee even taught this. One you enter flow state, everything around you slows down, and it feels like you can predict the future. Look at it like SPIDER MAN and his SPIDER SENSE. Once you can predict danger, there is never a need to panic. Jon is the most efficiently gifted fighter in the UFC. And its not close. He is scarier now because he bigger than MJW now and can still do all that stuff. Scary times for any of his opponents in the future. Pray he retires soon.

This is a masterclass in sequencing. He's saying the reason fighters will see the kick coming is because they train for rotation to happen and immediately react. With a traditional kick, you rotate and throw the kick at the same time which takes time to get there, but with MJW's sequence, you raise the leg before the rotation then fire the hip. As he said, half the movement is already done with leg already raised and the opponent still hasn't reacted, so when the hips are thrown and the leg is already up, they have half the time to react. No one can react that fast, so it's an effectively unseen and unblockable kick.

MJW should have fought in UFC in the 90's. My guess is MJW was more worried about acting career because if he loses in UFC his fighting persona would affect his movie roles

He’s been catching everyone with this kick for years, but this last fight against Stipe I noticed that there was practically no tell to it anymore. Much like Alex’s calf kick. “You don’t fear a man with 10,000 kicks, but a man that practices one kick 10,000 times”. This is proof of that

Reminds me of the way my homie trained and fought TKD. He had this goofy, almost pigeon toed stance, but everything was already and always loaded. You never had to prep the kick; you just had to unleash it. I trained with him for awhile and ish was crazy. I still use it to this day.

MJW didnt ever participate in any combat sports because he is an actor and has diffirent priorities he is busy doing lots of other things then getting trained for a cage fight but i respect him more because after spending such a busy schedule he still spare some time to continue his martial art practice.

Bro, props for finding this clip. I have been trying to mimic jon's kick for years. Better to go to the source. MJW is like a ninja. If he was a better actor, he would have been Nino Brown, Blade, and maybe even Shadow. lol, lol, lol...Just kidding. Shout out to Mr. Snipes. I would have paid to see that sparring match. But, no real fight. MJW is too big for Mr. Snipes. Muay Thai FOREVER!!!
