@KinkyLettuce3 жыл бұрын
6 years too late but I cant agree more with your comment. Anyone accusing Johnson for being jealous is incredibly disrespectful. First and foremost, 100m wasnt even Johnson's event at all, no reason to be jealous. Secondly, watch Johnson's reaction to Bolt's breaking WR of 200m twice - at Beijing olympic and Berlin. Johnson's reaction was always filled with excitement and awe
@KitagumaIgen3 жыл бұрын
Yup, completely correct. When Johnson ran 1932 he had his similar moment - one of the other runners (Ato Boldon? Frankie Frederics?) commented something like "1932 is not a time it is a year". So he got his and greats appreciates greats. His only "envy" might be something along the lines "I would have loved to race against Bolt"...

Yup, this one will last a long time. Going back to how long it took to drop from Ben Johnson's 9.79 in 1988 to Asafa Powell's 9.74 in 2007, a 9.58 given this same rate of progression "should not" have happened until the year 2067. I may be cherry picking taking Ben Johnson's WR instead of Carl Lewis' 9.92 after Ben was disqualified, but the way I see it was that a human being was capable of running a 9.79 in 1988 and 20 years later only 5/100th of a second were improved upon that, & then Bolt happened =)

I remember when I was in middle school, whenever I would run , I would repeatedly say out loud "gotta run like Michael johnson, gotta run like Michael johnson." I felt like it gave me the will power to run faster and faster the more I said it.

He never had the record in the 100 don’t know if he ever even ran it not professionally or at the Olympic level at least

Johnson knows the amount of hard work it took for him to be as fast as he was. Then Bolt comes along and does what he did. Johnsons mind was blown. Both are legends.
