I was so pissed that it was rumored he was the reason Isiah Thomas was excluded, he is one of my favorite point guards of all time. I did see all the physical play of those days when everything wasn’t a foul, he really took those licks and I had to respect him. It wasn’t right how The Bad Boy Pistons were the only ones called out for physical play because others were doing it as well. I don’t think folks realize Chicago owes this man more than gratitude, he is responsible for their only championships. My son is a Bulls fan and I tell him all the time they won’t see any more championships unless Jordan comes out of retirement and helps them, highly unlikely!!!! It was Magic, not Jordan. He admitted in his book. Jordan didn’t want to play with him but wasn’t even sure he’d play on the Dream Team. It was Magic who kept him out. That feud ran deep. Bear in mind Malone and Bird didn’t like him either. Also the Pistons went beyond the physical. They tried to hurt Jordan. Forearms in the face, across the neck, etc. Bird said Laimbeer would try to break people’s ankles by putting his foot underneath an opponent when they jumped. The Knicks and Pacers were extremely physical with Jordan but didn’t cross the line. The Pistons did constantly and then after all that, went off like classless cowards when finally beaten. Isiah was instrumental in all that.

Even though I was an Isaiah Thomas fan I was pissed by the lack of class they showed when they lost, but I’m still a fan of his to this day, still got my jersey. I wasn’t even a Jordan fan like everybody else lining up for his shoes. (I favored the college Jordan from NC.) I did respect his talent and the excitement he brought to the game. He was dogged a lot and some was extreme, I don’t agree with intentionally trying to break someone’s bone. Those of us from that era playing as kids was use to that physical playground type of play. This man was the best that I’ve ever witnessed. I was in the Air Force in 1985, and everyone in the gym wanted to imitate his game and no 1 could even come close. A bunch of grown men trying to play like a once in a lifetime ball player, LOL. Money Mike is what we called him, but whatever we call him it’s synonymous with GOAT. Looks like a great family too.
