In just his second ever NBA game, Michael Jordan put on a classic "air" show. Filled with spectacular blocks, dunks and reverse hanging lay-ups, Jordan showed signs of things to come. There is a very rare alley oop dunk in the second half of this game and maybe Jordan's best ever fast break dunk -- a rock the cradle two-hand slam from just inside the foul line. Unbelievable...
Thanks to schea for uploading this game on M2.

This game gave us a peak at what was yet to come... The greatest player of all time. I love seeing these old Jordan highlights, brings back many memories.

sidney moncrief was all-nba every year, best 2 guard in the world. when dean smith was asked about michael jordan's pro prospects he said, "i think he'll be a sidney moncrief type". and in his 2nd pro game, michael jordan was absolutely bewildering sidney moncrief. look at them both after michael's alley oop dunk on him.

Awesome video. CHeck out his first step at 24 seconds and 40-41 seconds. Ridiculously fast. And look at the height on that big alley-oop (you can see it better in other highlight tapes) -- it's one of the highest jumps for an alley you'll ever see. And the distance/body control on that last jam...wow. One of my faves.

Orlando Woolridge was such a physically talented player. For someone his size and strength to have such speed and agility was amazing. The only other player I've seen with those physical gifts is Shawn Kemp in the mid 90's. If he stayed with the bulls I wonder if he and Jordan could've won a championship earlier. I didnt know about the coke Julius1234 - thats a damn shame.

I was 3 years old but I swear if I was old enough to understand basketball I would have said he's the best ever after this 2nd game of his career. I've seen all these highlights before chopped up but I never knew they were from the same game and I never knew it was the 2nd game of his career. This is absolutely absurd.

I dont think the announcers had ever seen a player of Jordan's "supernatural" caliber before. He was their team at this stage and maybe beyond. I mean he was a rookie here(2nd game). But playing like an all star. He was a freak of nature with a superhuman drive to go with the same physical abilities.

Heck Yeah Man. Kobe and Lebron are great players but, JORDAN. No one ever will be anywhere near him in ability or drive.I was a Bucks fan and followed him closely throught my middle and high school years and he dominated the Bucks and of course everyone else. I'm glad I was alive to watch him when he was in his prime. No one else has really been close (before or) yet.

It's fascinating to see Jordan in the infancy of his reputation. It's like listening to Led Zeppelin in the winter of 1968-69. Before the hype, before he was "god disguised" as a human. You get to hear the raw reaction of the Bulls announcers as they witness Jordan inventing himself. That being said, if you pause it at 1:22, you also get the crappiest camera work in the history of the NBA. I mean, WTF?

Yeah Woolridge had some crazy hops and good power/explosiveness. I love the poster of Jordan dunking on him later when he was on the Lakers -- Jordan just goes THROUGH him. I'm sure you've seen the picture. =P

Back then 24 years ago, NBA fans had never seen a great talent like MJ. And now, 24 years after, even with the influx of "superstars" in the NBA you have to admit that he is still more superior in every aspect to these guys who are playing today.Today's "superstars" are having a hard time to win in the Olympics and the World Championships.

I love these clips of Jordan as a rookie. Incredible stuff and its funny too, how the refs and commentators had to adjust to this rookie that played in another league than the actual nba. "The ref is probably not used to such quick hands" lol

wow. up til now I'd never seen this before. The league just wasn't ready for jordan!! The refs werent ready, calling fouls on those amazing blocks. The commentators weren't ready, calling 'holy toledo' all the time and failing to call the rookie as anything particularly special. And, clearly, the opposition wasn't ready :)

The tenacity on both ends leaves me speechless....the guy was human...the energy consumption on both ends just tires me out...seriously...and to think there was one year where he avg 35ppg while shooting 53% and 3.3 stls per game and winning MVP, Def Player and a scoring title...gahhhlee..this guy is the total package...Kobe def has nothing on this guy...MJ just was more athletic and better overall..how many damn times am I going to emphasize on this Kobe is not seeing mj no way no how.

Man. Kobe hasnt got anywhere near the athleticism Mike had. Pretty much everyone knows that. Jordan had bigger hands, a higher vertical (48" to 40") and a hell of a lot more body control. If you compare one legged take-offs, its not even close. Technique, height, explosiveness, Jordan blows Kobe away. MJ had more athletic ability at 32 than Kobe had at 22.
