Yankees beat Burnes in May and Rodriguez didn't exactly dominate in his start against them either. The O's didn't expose anything that Yankees' fans haven't been talking about since Spring Training, bullpen and consistent secondary production in the lineup. The O's beat the Yankees, and O's fans have the right to gloat. However, the Yankees are currently in a funk, the O's haven't had one yet. They don't have a great rotation and their bullpen is shaky. They will go through a bad stretch, all teams do. I'd rather it be here in June than August or September. There are still 6 more games left and after the trade deadline. Let's see where the teams are at then before we start crowning anyone. Yankees have had losing records against teams in the regular season but beat them in the postseason when it counted.

The Yankees got slaughtered by Orioles, they took 2 out 3 and in April the Orioles took 3 out 4. They got the Yankees number. Conclusion the Orioles are going to get in the way of Yankees winning a championship and the Yankees could slip to second place. The Yankees weakness or holes are being exposed. Something must be at trade deadline by Cashman and the owner otherwise it could be another disappointing 2024 season. Those are facts.

Let’s be real with one another they still can’t beat AL East teams they’re 10-12! Only playing 13 times, Orioles are 5-2 vs NYY with 2 series left, the final is 2nd to last series of season ( Games 157-159) possibly the series to win AL East plus #1 seed IN AL playoffs. NYY won so much after losing 3 of 4 to Baltimore in May, it overshadowed weaknesses: biggest one is opposing teams able to run at will against them. Boston (or KC Royals) really exposed them by running wild and won series. Not just the Catcher throwing out players stealing bases, its the whole team's ability to execute the Relay Throws from Outfield to Infielders who continue relay for play at plate or know when to Cutoff and throw to 2nd or 3rd when runner is trying to take extra base when seeing relay is going to Homeplate. Game 2 is best example: In 10th inning Mullins took 2nd on single when relay went to home, then steals 3rd causing NYY error & leads to him scoring 2nd run in 10th inning which ended up being Game winning run as O's won 7-6!! (Was 5-5 after 9 inn.)

i’m 60 and grew up in the shadows of Memoial Stadium. The sons were awful too! Remember, they suspended Kevin Brown the announcer. The Yankees would fare better if they grew their players and picked up freer agents here and there instead of trying to win by buying players.

The Orioles are the better fundamental team. The orioles starting pitching is not great, but they have a better 1-9 line-up than the Yankees, and they are a better defensive, more athletic team than the Yankees. The return of DJ, Stanton, Rizzo, are so un-athletic. The Yankees also have a hole at the catching position, in that Trevino can not throw out a senior citizen, using a walker and Wells can not hit enough to validate his play. Torres has had a poor season both in the field and at bat. The Yankee bull-pen is not good enough, and Clay Holmes is not a bonafide closer, because he pitches to contact, and balls put in play can find a way to beat you, a bad bounce, perfectly placed grounder, a bloop, an error, particularly against teams whose hitters put bat on ball. I simply have no faith in Holmes when facing the better offensive teams. Have any Yankee relievers this entire season entered a game inheriting runners on-base and not allowed them to score, I think not. DJ has been not bad, but horrendous since returning. Initially one could blame his poor offensive production on his injury plagued spring training, however, more than a month has past, and his still looks awful at the plate, he rarely hits anything with authority. Rizzo, when he was healthy, simply was not hitting the ball well, getting base hits with little dunkers to left field, but not hitting with power, and his fielding has definitely declined. Staton, at least has been a Plus this season, but he blows her and very cold, and when cod, he misses the ball by 2-3 feet.

I agree that the O's get more production from their line-up than the Yankees, and they steal more bases, but this is largely due to age and the Yankees devaluing the stolen base which is why they don't have many speedsters in their lineup and refuse to have Volpe steal more (sabermetrics causing risk aversion). Actually, the Yankees have better defensive and pitching metrics and it's not even close. They do need more production from 6-9 in the order, preferably Torres, Rice, Cabrera, and Wells. Wells' statcast metrics show that he's making better and harder contact and that he's mostly hitting them at people. I feel Wells will come around if he gets more consistent at bats. I think Cashman will find bullpen arms, he usually does. They need to prioritize power pitching from the pen; Scott, Pressly, Fairbanks, Miller, guys like that. The issue for me it whether they can find an impact bat.

Amatuer take. There's always cause for concern when attempting to be great, because there are always inherent flaws. With that said, it's not time to panic, but it certainly is time for the front office to sit up and pay attention. Sadly, I'm not sure that they have the resources or the guys to do what would be needed to make a real difference.
