Don't think it's necessary to implement stupid changes such as golden at-bat, ghost runner, no shift, etc. Miss days before 4 inning starters when pitchers threw 150 pitchets if they could. Every year there are different rotations bc of free agency & injuries.

Bad argument from Kay here. The equivalent of a Quarterback in baseball is a pitcher not a position player. The mechanics of hockey and basketball can’t be compared to Football or Baseball

I know it’s meant for controversy and as a polemic, but still gotta say this argument that Kay introduces is quite dumb. you never know who’s going to get the big hit was listening to another podcast or talk about this so I won’t claim it’s my idea but what about Bucky Dent. Of course had the rule there at that time it wouldn’t let Bucky dent hit. He never know who’s gonna be the big hero and that’s what’s very beautiful about the game of baseball. I’m against the prospective rule change!

Baseball should do away with the blackout rules. I only watch the Yankees but where I live I’m blackout when they play Baltimore, Washington, Atlanta and Cinncy. I can’t afford to travel to these parks so baseball loses me when the Yanks play any of them.

Bad idea. People who love it don't care about the extra at-bats these guys get to receive to ruin the history of baseball and the numbers. If you have the golden bat then you might as well get rid of the lineup. The beauty of the lineup is to NAVIGATE through it so that you lessen the threat in later innings. Now that would be thrown out of the window to get these guys up again and again. It's schoolboy tactics.

This is so much worse than the ghost runner. So much of Michael's and Peter's reasoning is so bad. Baseball's not the only sport people shut off early when their team is losing. "It gives a team a shot at the end." That team had a shot. Shots. Throughout the entire game. They go 0-7 with RISP but we need a new rule because the stars already went 0-5 and they're down 2-0? Yeah, Michael, everyone has a best player. Not every team has a Judge. Lots of teams would rather have their 7 hitter hit in a big spot if it means that the Yankees 7 hitter, and not Judge, is also hitting in a big spot

Baseball I'm sorry it needs to change. The traditional baseball crowd is growing older and passing away. The younger fans and potential fans want excitement and more reasons to watch. Baseball needs to try new things. If something doesn't work stop doing it. If something does and it helps the game everyone will be happy. So I say just do it and see what happens.

I like the idea. Actually, close to loving it. As an avid boardgame player/armchair designer, I think it would be really cool to add more gamification to baseball. Implement the golden at-bat, but have it do other things too so the manager actually has to make some choices. Maybe the "golden ticket", we'll call it, can let you do a golden at-bat as suggested, OR you can burn it to bring in a new pitcher before the required 3-batters, OR you can sub back into the game someone who had already be subbed out of the game earlier, OR you can get 1 instant replay challenge back if you already lost it earlier, OR ... insert other funky, semi-OP ideas here. You get to choose ONE of these abilities ONCE per game. If you buy another challenge you then can't use the golden batter. New decisions all over the place. Rob, make it so
