@@sk1nz28 Sure, but they still committed to the $35.000.000 Soto is due for '24. And Soto's a great hitter, weak defender and baserunner, and he doesn't come off an asset for team-chemistry. Furthermore, if they are serious about having Judge play center, he'll be mediocre there and probably get hurt all the time.
@etamommy
@etamommy 8 ай бұрын
If you cannot see the upside of obtaining Soto's services for a year, I think you must be a died in the wool pessimist. Yanks needed a boost to the offense and Yanks needed more quality lefty bats in their day to day lineup. They got Soto (great), Verdugo (decent) and Grissham (admittedly poor to mediocre thus far but possibly with potential for better). That's a lineup with 3 lefty batters and possibly 4 if Austin Wells catches. Right there alone they have exponentially improved their offense. Still have a ways to go to compete but this is a great start. @@rudivanrooijen7611

Just wait to you get a load of Sotos defense. Watched that dude at petco all season. Has to be the worst fielder in mlb. ESPN must be getting paid off in not showing his misjudging of many balls. IMO it's a good trade. They will see if Soto can perform under the lights before they offer him a 10 year, god knows how much money contract. Still feel however there are a lot of questions such as Rizzo, Stanton, DJ and all the injured arms. Rizzo and Stanton are 34, DJ 35. DJ has not been the same since his injury a few years ago, Stanton is injury prone and Rizzo who knows how he will bounce back. All the injured arms, will they hold up or or break down again. Hopefully Torres will have another consistent year or will he go backwards and can Volpe improve on a 209 batting average. It will all play out over the course of the year but I am not penciling them in for anything yet.

It will be very interesting to see how deep Steve Cohen goes in the Soto Sweepstakes next year. Yankee fans think that an extension is a slam dunk. Not with Scott Boras as his agent, he's going to market. The Mets along with LA, Boston, SF, Toronto the Cubs+ + +, Soto is going to beat Aaron Judges $40M per. Is he worth that? The price seems to be around 500 mil for however many years, so as long as the yanks hit close to that I think they have a good shot at extending him. To me Soto will be like Yamamoto, more of a sweepstakes. There’s a lot of clubs that have the money but who do they want to play for? Just like with judge, Yanks matched the offer of the giants and judge decided to stay with the yanks. Let’s just hope Soto loves it in New York.

Soto one of the best players in baseball history, quite the hyperbole and exaggeration. He is a 1-2 dimensional player. I believe the Yankees gave up way too much young high-end talent for a one-year player. The outfield defense will not be very good with Judge in center, Soto and Verdugo playing the corners, not very good at all, and that is placing more strain on the oft injured Judge. What has Roldon done over the course of his career, absent his one outlier walk season, not a very impressive resume, replete with injuries and extended stints on the IL.

Personally I don't think they would have traded for him if they didn't plan on re signing him next year. Doesn't mean they'll be successful though.

Agree. They MUST have been given some kind of sign that Soto will sign something longer term with them.. Probably, 10 years with a lot of zeros after the 1st number.

Instead of posting what you think is a pithy comment that you copied from other KZbin baseball video comment sections... why not make a reasoned argument and tell @johnp8355 why you think he’s wrong? The fact is, Stanton is 34, in obvious physical decline and coming off two, dreadful statistical years, in which he also missed a total of 113 games. Rizzo was a shell of himself last year after he had a serious concussion and he missed 62 games. He’ll turn 34 this year as well. Meanwhile DJ LeMahieu, who will be 35 this season, last year had a career low in BA (.243) and a career high in SO (125). Can any (or all) of these players turn it around this year? We can only hope they can. But I don’t know how you can dismiss @johnp8355’s statement, and suggest that he doesn’t know baseball.

@jimsullivan3219 This. This is the exact reason I say when I see people being against Soto. Yea they gave up young pitching and I get all that. But can any real Yankee fan look that the terrible year they had on offense this past season and have any confidence with said lineup going into next year? Stanton at 34 already looking washed, aging DJ and the aging and questionable Rizzo. Who carries that lineup should Judge get hurt again? Gleyber? None of the kids are big time offensive threats. Soto helps that lineup tremendously

@@jimsullivan3219I definitely don't completely disagree, but I think there is reason to believe those players can perform better than last season. Or at least DJ and Rizzo. DJ seemed to be picking it up late in the season with the switch to Sean Casey at hitting coach. He might never return to the player that could win a batting title but getting back to .270 or .280 isn't entirely unrealistic and would be fine enough. Rizzo's game ages well and he looked good before the concussion. I think it's reasonable to expect him to play closer to the back of his baseball card even if he doesn't get there entirely. Prior to the concussion there wasn't any real reason to think he was beginning to decline in any significant way. Age will probably catch up but I don't think it's fair to chalk it up to that quite yet. Again, that would perhaps be less than ideal but would be a fine enough improvement. Stanton will always have value with his bat so long as he's actually healthy. I won't pretend that we should think he will be healthy though. But if he can somehow do it and play 120 games with short IL stints or lots of rest I think he might add value again. If they can get 2 or 3 war out of 2 of the 3 I think that would be good enough

I agree with you…I’m talking about Hal/Cashman…they don’t want to pay Soto. They can sell that IF Dominguez is awesome and they’ve already spent more on pitching. Judge/Cole/Rodon signed at big numbers for at least 5 years each. If they get Yamamoto then I can’t see them paying Soto. You can’t have 5-6 mega deals plus DJ/Stanton plus annual roster supplements unless you’re willing to go crazy with payroll every year. Yanks will always spend $$$ but Hal doesn’t want to lead the league every season.

Dumbest conversation. As for Michael Kay, who cares if you’re called “Yankee boy“? Yankees needed to make a big move, and they just got the best player on the market and a potential long-term slugger at 25 years old. Why can’t you be rooting for the Yankees? as for Dom Lagreca, Mets fan. ‘Nuff said.
