I’m a 42-year-old lifelong gamer. The GTA games are definitely pushing boundaries. They always have been… I do believe that younger people naturally are going to be more impressionable and like you said, let it affect their subconscious/soul… But I do believe adults can decipher the difference between video game in reality. And games like this do typically tell great stories. It’s kind of like how people sit down and watch a whole series on Netflix. Some of us just choose to play interactive movies.

I've always seen GTA as the perfect video games for teens or even pre-teens. Gives the player all the freedom to commit crimes, drive and wreck expensive cars, shootouts with gangs and police, the list goes on. Most of that stuff you know from movies but doing it yourself in virtuality makes it that much more interesting. At the same time, it's very clear that whatever the character does in GTA is not what you want to ever do. Wouldn't wanna walk into a strip club, but to 13 year old me that was a major point of interest in GTA SA, same with the Casino. It's also always set in these interesting places you always wanted to visit but never got to, be it Californian cities or a mish-mash of New York and other cities in the form of Liberty City. Unless you have a mental disorder that prevents you from differentiating fiction and reality, I can't see any harm from these games.

For as much as we want to say that we as adults can take it, we are also susceptible to the influences of these games. It all comes down to how willing are you to resist playing these kinds of games. Trust me. It happens to all of us. Our level of maturity may help us “soften the blow” but it’s still a blow nonetheless. Hope that makes sense. It doesn’t have to be ultra realistic or anything like that, just exciting. Rockstar has always put a lot of effort, care, and time into writing the stories of their games. I cannot recall a Rockstar game that didn’t have a good story. So I wouldn’t be too worried about that.

Rockstar has been leaning into giving players the choice of being virtuous or evil. Look at Red Dead Redemption 2. The thing about it is that they design it so that it's harder to be good but it's more rewarding, just like in real life. This game has been 10 years in the making. Looks absolutely amazing. However... I'd be lying if I wasn't more excited about Red Dead Redemption 3. Even though Red Dead Redemption 3 is probably 10 years from coming out. No other game has immersed me more that Red Dead Redemption 2. I had some experience with voice acting and gotta say I just hope the acting in this one is as good as it was in the past. The third game had some amazing cast, really captured the vibes of the Sopranos or Goodfellas. Not to mention the late Ray Liotta or the rapper who voiced CJ: they basically stole the show. Ps. You almost saw me as Leon in these new Resident Evil games :)

Play it. The last game Rockstar did (Red Dead Redemption 2) had an astonishingly complex, deep, thought provoking and emotional story. It was better written and acted than basically anything on TV and in Film at the moment.

@@Iamthewillrose Look I try to follow patterns... it's just what happens to all media. It becomes compromised/bought out and the old concept is destroyed. Men should be focused on building strong relationships and families anyway, not spending time playing video games which like Michael mentions is meant to dull your senses. Not saying you can't play at all but this is the type of game that will eat up a lot of hours in life. Too big, too expansive and too 'realistic.' To me it doesn't matter if it is poking fun at anything if it is also engaging in and contributing to it. Also If you are a masculine male (i.e. you are a normal person and attracted to females) and If you also want to live a virtuous life then you should not be playing this game. Since you are within a virtual world where at any moment some skank npc can come along and start shaking her posterior and you can be tempted and then lapse into committing a mortal sin, by putting yourself in that situation is one step too far already.
