Tony Weaver Amen! I hate to say it, but black folks don't always give the respect or pay homage to our icons and legends like our paler brothers and sisters do to rock stars. We need to do BETTER. Black music is the spine of every genre of music and it deserves to be treated as such.

Marie Ryder Mike does a great job of hyping himself and branding BBD and SR Sportswear because that's his joosh. Note how he states here that he, Rickey, and Ronnie are really close. "BBD was 90% of the NE show"?!?! GTFOH, Where is Ralph, Johnny, and Bobby? If you listen to all of the interviews you start to put the pieces together that Mike is the shadiest of the group, he does not like to give the other members of NE (Ralph, Bobby, Johnny) their shine or credit.
@JAN-xs9qr7 жыл бұрын
I just love me some BIV. he was and still is my favorite member of NE. I remember meeting him in 1989 in my hometown Washington DC. he was very nice to me as he was leaving he touch my cheek with his soft hand. wow I remember losing my mind after that touch. I loved BIV so much that when I found out I was having a som I prayed that my son would have a clef in his chin because mike have one and I thought that was so sexy on mike and god did answer my prayer my son got a clef lol. one more thing about Mike he is just the coolest MO FO you ever seen his swagger is ridiculous. NE fan 4 life.

Mike gives a lot of "food for thought" in this interview. The experience & wisdom of his 32 years in the music business provides a lot of insight and can help to Mentor young artists. Why do we have to call it "old skool". Experience matters. However, Ageism is real. Like Mike said, "I'm here to have a conversation. I'm NOT here to be relevant!"

jessica fairley Thanks! I just loved the info dropped here. If Ice T can do Rap, why can't one of the leads of New Edition do a documentary or book ( if there is time for a book, got to strike while the iron is hot) on the messed up state of R&B. Plus Mike's voice is yummy, with on point info, good camera that would be hot. He could even talk to some of the greats like Teddy Riley and Babyface, and definitely Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Then OMG !!! that would be amazing. I would still love a book for my shelf. imagine a history book that took you from the beginning of R&B to present it. but it would really have to be done special, great interviews, beautiful pics, great cover. it's would have to be gorgeous to make people want to pay for a physical book. like a R&B time capsule. Man... I'm going to watch this video again LOL😍

This is what I'm talking about. Mike Bivins is showing his history and what he was about back in the day when no one noticed. He's dropping knowledge about the music business today and how they have so many misses. My son in law had this young teenage kid who could be the next Justin Bieber. They let him slip through their hands. I begged them, man work with that young man because with the right direction he will be the next big time rapper with his own swag. No one has moved on this kid. I don't even think he's rapping anymore.
