I am slow or never go in just like Jodi. My sister lives in Las Vegas and they have a pump that will pump the water up on their house through a tube system and then back in their pool. It gets so warm in the summer. I will go in then. They also have a floaty thing that keeps me up out of the water. If it is hot outside I will use that. I live in southern Alberta so water is cold no matter what. I’m sure we are also the same faith.

I am aware of the fact that there was a phase in my life where I was very slow to go into the water. We've got no sea, so pools, rivers and lakes only. No matter the situation, i was usually still getting in, when all my friends were already returning and coming out of the water. The problems were, my knees, major issue - the plums, the waist, and the nipular area. Then the kids arrived, and pretty quickly i learnt that you can't get into the water fast enough. No i RUN into the water! Because as a dad, you can't be the last into the water. And i can tell you one thing. It's alright once you're in...

We were in the pool in a hotel in Rhodes. (it was fine once we were in! 🤣) We could hear this knocking noise and a lady going... "Hello..? Hello..?" Everyone was looking around confused for nearly 10 minutes as it got more and more desperate. Then this poor lady emerged from the poolside loo looking quite disgruntled... she'd locked herself in the cubicle 😩😅

I come from a seaside town on the southcoast of GB and as a child I was always down the beach and straight in the sea everyday in the summer holidays. I never found it that cold tbh. What used to make me laugh though was the holiday makers "grockles" we would call them. They would go into the water and come out and just lay down on their towels and sunbath without wiping thenselves dry first and then wonder why they got three degree burns the next day! So funny seeing all the red lobsters trying to walk around town in agony! Thats how we knew they were "Grockles" lol

Where I live the town's major employer was a philanthropist. He built a swimming pool and recreation facilities, sports fields, for the workers. If you had a relation (almost everyone did) that worked for the company you could get a yearly pass and go swimming, for free, in the company pool. All the kids I knew lived at the pool. We went swimming everyday, winter and summer. I should point out that I'm in the UK. The pool, a ballroom, a social club (bar and snooker facilities), a ballroom that was also a cinema, where employees had dances and could watch general release movies cheaply, a gymnasium, sports fields for rugby, soccer, and cricket, were all built in the fifties. All of these facilities were held in a workers trust and the company maintained them. Being in a workers trust they could never be sold. The company also built two pools that were given to the council, for use by the general public (but you had to pay to use it), and they donated several libraries scattered around the town. They were a family of true philanthropists. Unfortunately, in the nineties, they were taken over by, sorry, an American company. The new owners ran down maintenance on these facilities until they had to be demolished. All that philanthropy destroyed.

Me too, in our town we all went to the same baths with school to learn, and there was this awful old swimming teacher, I remember he was bald, with a big beard. Looked scary as hell, used to shout all the time and had this long cane he used to whack you with if you weren't in the right place or doing something correctly. This was only in the mid 90s. He was there for years and is remembered by loads of people in our hometown for being that nasty swimming teacher! He'd probably get locked up these days!

@jackwhitbread4583 It's not about whether it's hard or not, it was uncomfortable having to strip in front of all your mates and naked old men and being forced to wear a swimming cap just because your hair is slightly long for a boy. Pointless skill if you ask me.

Vigo a beach sort in Northern Spain have banned people from peeing in the sea. Best thing to do is jump in the pool, I did stay at one hotel, although it was Easter at time, Rhodes or Create the pool water was freezing.

When I at the pool, a group of us would Cannonball the toe dippers every time. It was usually the preppy girls that only went to the pool to show off their new swimsuits/bikinis. They never swam just lounged around sunning themselves while trying to get the jock lifeguards attention.

There's more to going to the beach than swimming. I can't swim, but I will walk out as far as I can without drowning. Of course, if I were with a man who pees in the sea, I would never venture into the water with him around. Also, women feel the cold a lot more than men.

It depends what temperature you are talking about here if it's even a heated swimming pool or a lake. As I have aged nearer fifty I have reversed my policy to be more of a creeper scared of heart attack although do still use the technique if I can get away with it.
