This man was a hero in the prosecution of Adolf Eichmann, because of the enormous contributions he made in directing the part of the investigation prior to trial, where many, many people went through millions of documents, compiling only 1600 of those documents for use in Eichmann’s trial. Goldman Gilad appears in several documentaries about the trial, and in a few he remembers first coming to Israel and telling two new friends about his experiences in Auschwitz; he heard them whispering in Hebrew (not knowing how much he understood) that survivors always exaggerated the negative aspects of their sufferings. Later, a man was going to testify about seeing a boy being given 80 lashes for some minor misdeed, and this boy turned out to be Goldman Gilad! When asked by his colleagues why he had never said anything, he replied, “The disbelief of that couple was the 81st blow.”
