A brilliant cover of one of the "punkiest" songs ever. This sentiment literally saved my life growing up in a small town in the middle of nowhere in the seventies.

Always difficult to judge covers when one (i.e. me) remembers the original with such affection. OK, it's a decent enough cover but doesn't really add (or detract) from the original. Funny cos' the original artists (Eddie and the Hot Rods) also did covers and somehow they did bring something new to songs like "Get out of Denver" & Gloria.

That song, looking back to the Hotrods original, was more in the vein of US 'New Wave' than the Punk that was happening in the UK at the time. They were maybe a bit older than the punks, much better musicians, generally, and their style of dress was nothing like punk (the clothes of the punk bands in UK were very important to the young fans of the scene, at the time- and it was a huge overnight teenage fashion change). If I'm honest, this tune sounds like a Bruce Springsteen number... In my highly subjective opinion, it's better than Springsteen though. Yes, it fitted in really well with the punk scene. Phase 1 punks loved it... and they didn't seem to notice the band weren't punks, far as I remember. It's an underrated huge classic, however we label it. (Phase 1 punk is my loose term for punk in the form it first hit the UK. Phase 2 is about 1978 or 79, when it becomes a uniform - i.e. red mohawk, tartan bondage trousers, painted, studded, leather biker jackets, 18 hole steel toe Doc Martens )

I'm mostly unaware of Hanoi Rocks output and/or Michael Munro's subsequent solo output but this is a terribly bland version of an all time classic song that no one can improve on, ever. It sounds like the Rembrandts and that's not a good thing if you know what I'm implying.
