Michael Moore is a nice man, very intelligent, and about as good as it gets on the American Left; but I think his perspective on this issue is inadequate. People like this tend to romanticize protest movements and ignore their darker undercurrents. It strikes me that right-wing reactionary xenophobia and adherence to a dead religion which makes sin 'respectable' (that is, islam) lie at the CORE of Palestinian 'resistance' since 100 years ago. If Palestinian Christian go along with this agenda, I think they are makin g the same error which we Western Christians have often made, which is to put country ahead of faith. God's kingdom will last forever, but every human regime will fail someday. Without a Biblical understanding of Israel's significance in world history, one totally misses the broader context in which it was re-established as a nation in 1948, having lost its political independence in 586 B.C. but maintained some kind of consistent ientoty despite dispersion and exile. This phenomenon of srvival and quasi-resurrection is a singularity in historical terms, whixh defies all human logic. The extraordinary fact is that it was prophesied in Hebrew Scripture centuries before Jesus Christ came upon t The phenomenon of Israel's return cannot be chalked up to political machinations alone, nor to accident, nor to a 'mistake', nor to a successful conspiracy, because that conspiracy would have had to be coordinated across millennia.
