The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Surprisingly better than I had exxpected. He had sort of a Chet Baker sound, with Gordon Lightfoot's looks.

The only thing better would have been to see the performance of "Long Lonesome Highway", which would debut on the Hot 100 a couple weeks after this show aired & ended up being a top 20 hit.

@@jong0000 👍🏼😂Actually, he could sing. He had a ‘powerful’ voice, but this selection seems so laid back, for what he could actually, sing out.

I think he did a good performance of this old standard. I thought he usually sung folk and country pop songs. I never cared for this tune and respected his approach to the song. His accompanying musicians certainly helped!

This was at the same time that Michael Parks was starring in the NBC television series _Then Came Bronson_ playing the title character, a young man who quits his job and hits the road on his Harley on a journey of self-discovery. The show, which only lasted one season, was the network's attempt to cash in on the counter-culture of the late sixties ... sort of a cross between _Route 66_ and _Easy Rider_ As seen here, Parks tried to use his new found star status to promote a singing career as well, having moderate success soon after with his chart-reaching recording of _Long Lonesome Highway_
