Michael Parks was one fine actor and in my opinion was up there with the greats.

I had a terrible crush on Michael Parks in the late 60s, my brother was into motorcycles and Michael had his own tv show Then Came Bronson. He was blacklisted by Universal and nobody went to see his movies. Years later he was in some high profile films before he passed on. Take a look at his filmography, you will see he was the real deal. He had an amazing life and was the quintessential American actor.

I used to live in Monterey California. While working as a bartender in Pacific Grove, I met Mike one night at The Captains Gig, bar on Cannery Row. I went into the men's room and he was sick. I feel bad, but I said to him, "Aren't you Michael Parks from Then Came Bronson?" He nodded... I said, man, what happened? A week later, he came into my bar, El Nidos, up on Lighthouse Ave. He showed up with two lovely ladies and proceeded to get pretty hammered, had an argument with the girls and they left him there. I realized he was not in condition to drive and I offered him a ride. He accepted and tipped me a few hundred when I had my buddy stop by with his Jaguar to drive him home. I drove his Jeep. A week later, he came in again, handed me his keys and $300 and said, "Make sure I get home safe." We got to be pretty good friends for a while. RIP MIke. You went through a lot of shit. And came out the other side pretty well. Kill Bill was amazing!

Oh my gosh, he was such a gorgeous young guy he was my number one favorite heartthrob growing up. Loved wild seed, the lead girl was later in petticoat junction. He was so sexy in a quiet way. Reminded me a little of James Dean, but Mike was sexier, very good actor and very weird. Didn't see too much of his later work but I heard he was very good. Is he a little drunk on this interview or just his normal weird. He seems drunk. Loved the young him anyway. 🌻

I discovered him twice, I guess. "First" saw him in From Dusk till Dawn and then later played the same sherriff character in the 1st Kill Bill movie and especially liked him in Kill Bill 2, where he played the Mexican pimp, Esteban, and he was great as that. He passed away then I googled him and realized he played Adam in the Bible (1962) which I watched when I was 6 in 1986. Underappreciated actor, rest easy Mr. Parks.

I also think he was ostracized because they wanted him to change his character in his Then Came Bronson.They wanted him to be more rough edged instead of being altruistic. So the show despite good ratings was cancelled.

Now, I really want to watch this film series I have never heard of it and I did not see it but I check it out, if I can somehow watch it. Quinton Tarantino said that Parks is the greatest actor in the world! That is quite the statement considering Tarantino has worked with the best actors of the last 50 years! Michael Parks is just incredible and such a entertaining actor to watch! Red State was phenomenal! We are who we are was another great movie! Chinalake murders with Parks and Tom skerritt phenomenal! Other roles Parks has done was great as Earl McGraw, Esteban Vallejo, the listening 🎧! Death wish 5! Such a legend and a great musician! Unbelievably talented man and greatly missed! My dad (born 1948), has many experiences with Michael with his cousins in Santa Cruz and corona , they called him "Topper" as a kid because he was that much better at things than everyone else. If he wasn't blackballed he could have been big.
@petermorley39104 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that insight into the formative Michael Parks from your dad, which really gels with everything I've seen of him on screen. A kid who just "had it" and the other kids, like me, can only stand back and admire. But blackballed or no - he IS big. Bigger than many whose impact will fade. The flame of Michael Parks is likely to continue burning longer than such flameouts for the very reason your dad said - "Topper".

Great actor, one of the best in the industry. However, he's very difficult, almost painful to listen to while he's either intoxicated or medicated.
