Michael Payne is one our Bowie Historians in the ABKA. He disperses the fable of the bowie knife made famous by Hollywood. And replaces it with non-fiction.

I don't understand why Bowie is more famous then Cassius Clay. That guy was in more knife fights then anyone ive ever heard of. He even had a self-defense canon.

I got a cold steel black bear bowie machete. The toughest and most practical knife I have ever owned. It’s my trusty companion and Edc . I live in San Diego California btw and it’s accompanied me everywhere in the city, on public transport ect. The only place it hasn’t been is in a court house and a few restricted areas. As an outdoorsmen and someone who’s experienced in extreme violence, these outlandish knives do have their place. I would like to know why they were designed the way they were and more about the composition of the steel and methods of manufacture. I have done my own experimentation and would like to know how it compares to historical uses.

@jf4313 Not this man, but my father was some what of a historian on many things but mainly the Civil War, Native Americans, and of course weapons. He had an obsession with Bowie knives. This made me think of him the entire video.

I used to see Joe Muso at a few of the knife shows in SoCal. He was a pretty friendly guy. I never knew that knife a fake. And reslly good one too.

Somewhere in Mexico in a small mountain village there is someone whose ancestor fought with Santa Anna at the Alamo. They are smiling as they oil their family heirloom. Those famed relics, and their original owners were undoubtedly familiar to the Mexican soldiers at the time. Had they been recovered by Sam Houston’s men at the retribution battle they would not have been treated lightly. We would likely have them still. I think they went south and if so, they will stay south. I don’t believe the huge sums of money any confirmed item might bring would such stir current holders. Imho.

Not true at all.... Bowie knives started in america made by Americans The fact that England made countless bowie knives and sold them all over the world especially in the US, AFTER they were hugely popular means nothing...
