Nearly everyone who's commented on here so far, really needs to read Michael Peace's book Think Like Your Horse. His philosophy and approach may be different to the current "norm" but he is still a good trainer. In fact, he is the best with problem horses that I have ever seen. This is one of the techniques he uses to encourage a horse to move forwards with more energy, encouraging the horse to take longer steps behind, while opening the rein for his shoulder to follow through in front.

I think this is brilliant advice that makes perfect sense...I'm definitely giving this a go with my plodder! Do the people accusing him of not being able to ride notice how well that horse was going? It's all about weight shift by the looks of it.

What are they doing with the reins?
@evhajec12 жыл бұрын
lots of neck reining, reins are for head control not direction, if you want direction then you need to apply leg aids to move the shoulders, hind action,impulsion, reins are only ever needed for impulse control, half /full halt and head position, open and closed reins are the best ways to get forward movement take into consideration your horses personality before hand ...learn their behaviours and adapt your training to fit, not all horses learn the same

It would help more if the rider would sit up and get off the horses loins. Using the reins as a go forward cue is just so wrong. Leg---go---reins---steer and stop
