LYRICS:
Somewhere inside them back Florida pines
There's a town with a Choctaw name
There's a little white church and a real tight curve
On the edge of a field full of grain
Yeah the preacher was a stand-up man
Shakin' hands every Sunday morning at the door
He loved his congregation but he ran an operation
Selling more than the word of the Lord
And he called it holy water
He called it holy water
He bought a brand new Lincoln
Had a couple deacons thinkin' it was more than he could afford
They knew something was up when he was shuttin' his trunk
At the church around 1 in the morning
When he was outta sight, they snuck around inside
And found a door leadin' under the ground
They popped the lock on the latch
Walked down and flashed their lights
And guess what they found
A cellar full of holy water
No one knows where it comes from buddy
But you can find it anywhere from Bama to Kentucky
Got the whole damn southeast side of the country
Lining up to pay top dollar
The jar tops twist when the sun starts settin'
Burns like hell, gets ya high like heaven
Lord have mercy if they knew where they was getting that holy water
Well the deacons pulled up to his house in a truck
With the proof all crystal clear
He tried to play it off but he knew he was caught
So he said brothers, listen here
You can call the law or you can keep the secret
I'll cut you in and we can call it even
Next Sunday mornin' 'round 10 o'clock
There was two more Lincolns in the parking lot
No one knows where it comes from buddy
But you can find it anywhere from Bama to Kentucky
Got the whole damn southeast side of the country
Lining up to pay top dollar
The jar tops twist when the sun starts settin'
Burns like hell, gets ya high like heaven
Lord have mercy if they knew where they was getting that holy water
Now there's new stained glass, new pews front to back
Nobody even asked no questions
And a sign out front with some letters readin'
"John, Chapter 2, Verse 1 through 11"
For Michael Ray, music is his grandfather singing and sweating on a rural Florida stage. It’s the childhood refuge he found during the pain of his parents’ divorce. It’s family and stories, history and hope. Ray says music saved him, but it did even more: Music made him. In four short years, Ray has built an impressive foundation. Three No. 1 songs “Kiss You in the Morning,” “Think a Little Less,” and “One That Got Away,” plus “Get to You” and “Her World or Mine,” brings his tally to five Gold-certified singles. The poignant “Her World or Mine”--the third song off of his sophomore album Amos--also produced a video that has captured more than 19 million KZbin views since its debut less than a year ago. Now, two hit albums into that all-too-rare blend of critically acclaimed and commercially successful career, Ray has released “Whiskey And Rain,” the first single off of his upcoming project produced by GRAMMY-nominated song whisperer Ross Copperman. Proof that heartbroken wallowing can feel good if it swings, “Whiskey and Rain” also cements Ray as the ideal bridge between vintage country cool and modern country’s best sounds. See Ray live every Tuesday on his Honkytonk Tuesday virtual series, where he plays his favorite ‘80s and ‘90s tunes with surprise guests.

Love it, now thats my kind of church and my kind of preacher. Just remember what the good book says. Jesus did turn the water into wine. Praise God! None of us are righteous, no not one. But we love the lord with all our hearts. We were forgiven over 2000 years before we were born. And for thy stomachs sake, drink a little wine!!!!! Bless all.

Country music can evolve, I try not to hate on any of it. But there is something about classic country in the way it pulls every thing together just right; from the vocals to the melody to the perfect guitar riff with just a bit of fiddle delivered by a country boy with swagger. This song is great songwriting and storytelling, well done.

@shelleyking3443

Too much truth in that statement sadly. Our last pastor turned out to be a meth head and apparently learned to practice hellfire and brimstone massages, but when the truth came out it wasn't good. He even sued the church and won, because the church wanted his contract broken due to his lifestyle conflict. I really don't understand how you can claim to be a shepherd and cause people to lose faith in the church.

Love the moment when the pastor is walking across the grass and when he stops, he's just in the shadow. It's a great personification of not only how this holy man isn't perfect and has his "dark side" hence stopping in the shadow, but also how he is the "shadow" hanging over the deacons should they ever decide to turn him in cause he can bring them down with him.

For those wondering about the bible verse he's referring to at the end, John 2 Verse 1:11 is when Jesus is said to have performed his first of 3 miracles while attending a wedding: He turned water to wine. Well done to whoever wrote that into the song, it's genius and fitting.

John 2, verses 1-11 specifically. 2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4 “Woman,[a] why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b] 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

Awesome song-and Michael Ray sang it well..to Kentucky-my grand daddy was a water man but if he was on his porch in Farmington, KY on sunday..then they knew they could stop cause he had his 'holy water' for sale-guess this song with Sunday church day in it made me think of him-love this song. Lyrics..music..definitely 👍

Nice to hear a modern Country hit that isn't about the backwoods lifestyles, breakups, or revenge. Good ole' classic storytelling.

Sounds like my church lol. Thank God the Lord don't cancel us out! Nobody is perfect and the only One that is was crucified. A church is not a museum for saints, it's a hospital for sinners. If you go to church looking for fault you won't have to look very far but if you go to church looking for Jesus you will find Him. There is no perfect church and if you find one you better not go in because you will probably mess it up and if you are in a church that is already messed up your probably part of it Lol. There is no one so bad that they can't be saved and noone so good that they need not be saved. Jesus loves sinners, He just hates sin because He knows there are consequences to sin that will hurt us. You have to know your a sinner in order to be saved. Paul called himself chief sinner. He said why do I do what I will not to do and don't do what I will to do. Thank God it's not about what we do or don't do to get to heaven. It's about what the precious Lord Jesus did for us!!! Love you Michael Ray and love this song and video! God Bless!

Talk about not being perfect, in my LDS church men can't have piercing, so in my church that I was baptized to I'm an outcast and looked at as the son of satan, Yea nobody's perfect the only one that was, was crucified, but everyone needs to know that you can be religious and have your own personality, you don't have to follow the rules that your church wants you to follow, be you and walk into church with the I don't care addittued, bc in the end when we die, we won't carry anything on our body with us the the afterlife
