Michael Soriano, Director of Pharmacy at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, was recently a guest on ABC Radio with Sarah Dingle following the Pharmacy Department’s win for ‘Clinical Excellence: Quality of Care for Clinical Excellence’ at the 2024 Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) Awards for Excellence.
Michael discusses the Opioid Stewardship Program, which was designed as NSW’s first collaborative model of care for sustainable opioid use. This patient-focused approach mitigates the risk of opioid use post-surgery, minimising analgesic harm, improving costs, and tackling systemic over-prescription of opioids. Instead, this model of care promotes a patient-empowered, multi-disciplinary pain management plan.
