Mickey was and is one of the most talented and creative artists in the music world. I always like so many Bangles fans adored her and think she has a certain unique charisma without being one of those awful people who flaunt their talent in your face. She is much more humble like one of her great music hero's George Harrison. Love her voice!

In an interview, Michael said that after leaving the Runaways, where she was only a short time, she had been in a number of bands (I think about 15) before joining the Bangles in 1983. I think she never clicked or felt at home in any of the former bands. In the Bangles she finally felt like she belonged there. Also when Susanna Hoffs and Vicki Peterson first met at the end of 1981, it was an instant mesh, same taste in music, same goals, and both overwhelmed by the recent death of John Lennon. They also belonged together. The Bangles were like sisters, and although families always argue and get at each others throats, they should always stay together. But they let their differences and external factors break them up in 1989. After 10 years apart, in 1999 they did reconcile and the result was their album Doll Revolution, not too shabby an album. But they had lost momentum and their run of popularity. Their hardcore fans had moved on and the youngins now liked Britanny Spears, and various boy bands. Also, both Susanna and Debbi had other priorities....families. So there was not a strong committment to tour and promote, something Michael disagreed with. Since the married Bangles considered the band as a "part time job" (totally understandable by anyone who has had children), and Michael preferred a full committment, she decided to retire in 2005. But the bottom line is, the fact that they got back together in 1999 shows the ties they had as cuasi-sisters, and I personally wish they had never broken up in 1989. Each still could have done their individual projects, but without abandoning their mother ship. What would the Bangles have been if Doll Revolution had been released in 1990, and maybe more albums at that time? It was only a wish.

Bangles were as daft as too many women are in this situation-they LET their shit label spilt them up. They allowed arsehole producer Dave Kahne to treat them like crap and boss the hell out of them through the 1st 2 albums and completely removed Debbi's verse from 'Egyptian' that it doesn't seem to exist in any form anywhere. They also allowed a certain hostility with Hoffs to build-up when it became clear Kahne and Epic/CBS main interest was her-they released barely anything as singles that didn't have her lead voice and were hell-bent on signing her away from the others, then when the bomb stupidly went off Following (no pun intended) their career-best album "Everything"-even though it was previously released without the 14th song to complete it-the Debbi sung 'What I Meant To Say', Susanna instantly stayed with them for her first solo venture, which rapidly went south when it performed nowhere near what the label expected. They realised the truth: they were all much better together-a full unit as had been the original case, but damage done. "Doll Revolution" represents the exact album that should have followed "Everything" in 1990 or 1991 or 1992, and it sounds as if time stood still. Of course, naturally, people are thick and WOULD go for crap like Spears, Boyzone, Oasis all that shit, but so what, other real OLD lags like slagdonna, Bon Jovi and Tina Turner still hang around and THEY still retain a fake gathering for no good reason at all. Life makes no sense and is devoid of much worth. I guess Susanna and Debbi's kids were annoyingly young at the time, but that doesn't change the fact they could still record more then they do. Clearly the Bangles became less important to them than it did to Micki and that's a sad thing. If Bangles was so strong they COULD go on together without their silly, unnecessary damaging 1989 blow-up, then we'd have got a bit more work for our investment in them, but probably nothing would top "Everything" and that's fine, I'm sure they would have continue matching their other albums quality, but it wasn't to be. Just like with Kirsty MacColl and Big Country, Lene Lovich and Shakespears Sister, life has a way of damaging those in the industry that matter most, so we get only a fraction of what we'd really love, but at least then they never put a foot wrong. Personally I'm lucky in that a no. of my other fave artists (Kim Wilde and Duran Duran among them) managed a more prolonged period of frequent work, despite life issued getting in the way of them too), but it's always a risk game with anybody great.

I’m back after my walk of yesterday… “I can’t let go, I can’t hold on any longer…” Michael do you have a 20 year old journal of heartfelt passages like that? Maybe some sketches and other art drawings? Collections of dried flowers pressed in the pages? There has to be other songs you sing and hum to the pupsters and felines at your feet. To the day when you share those songs and stories we wait…

I was commenting on TwX about the Beatles “in My Life” and how I saw CSN go off script and insert it in a ‘14 concert, beautifully sung… they immediately went into “Deja Vu” great pairing of emotional songs. As I shared that I thought of this song by Michael. All beautifully melancholy and soulful enveloping songs. I Love when music and a song does that. It would be great if Ms. Steele had more to share with us fans. Peace 🤞Out Michael. (TY Max cloakroomwasher)

Oakpal. She stopped the last tour on January 2004. MySpace was just founded, FaceBook was about to be born, KZbin was born a year later and Napster was used only to download mp3 files. So many years have passed since her real retirement that social networks weren't yet known. Also, the people closest to her were familiar with her emotional problems and there have never been any leaks about her habits her residence....just general information obtained informally by a few fans. She has chosen the right moment to disappear 😊👋 Seriously, it‘s not a normal situation. If she have all these phobias sometimes I wonder how she could have been a rock star.

Looking at past pictures of The Bangles it is hard to believe that they are in their 60s now. Michael herself is 64 years old?? This good looking woman is 64 years old now? However, this is why i tell old people to shut the hell up when they talk trash and nitpick younger people, they were no different themselves than anyone else is today.

Just discovered her time with Crash Wisdom, and I am like there are not words in the spoken word of any language that can say just how incredible! The Bangles were nothing with out her! Her voice is that of a single angel singing before the throne of God Almighty. And this is some crappy bootleg recording! Imagine what that voice would be like in a professional studio with real acoustics!
@robertdendooven72585 жыл бұрын
Listening to the music she wrote while with the Bangles and later on in other projects, I don't think she would have meshed well with the music Joan Jett and others wrote for The Runaways. Would she at that time wrote more hard rock or punk rock songs that fit in with the other songs that band recorded or not? I would really like to hear her perspective on her time with both The Runaways and The Bangles in regards to the music both bands played compared to her solo and other projects' style of music.
@rialobran5 жыл бұрын
Change is as good as a rest. Few songs John Lennon wrote after the Beatles resemble what he wrote with McCartney. Imagine is a world away from Ticket to Ride. Having said that I agree she wouldn't have meshed well with Joan Jett but do believe she was the right fit in Bangles. A female artist I do believe she would have fit with is Crissie Hynde and the Pretenders. The makings of a female super group right there.
