Thanks for the upload. I remember watching this and pissing myself at the bizarre and unlikely sight of TV gardener and professional Lancastrian Christine Walkden bullying Michael Stipe into potting up a buddlejia plant and telling him off when he did not do it correctly! She may be a gardener but she knows bugger all about butterflies; "blue emperor" (she means purple emperor) and "Large blue"; the former is a rare ancient woodland species and the latter was extinct in Britain until it was reintroduced in the 1990s, so both very unlikely to visit anyone's garden. Typical One Show; we will rush through this interview with a rock star for an important feature about. . . motorways!

I love Michael Stipe. However, regarding Obama's chances of getting into the White House, Stipe said that when Obama does become president, "...it will be a better day for all of us." Here we are in 2015 and the country has gone to hell in a hand basket. I'd like to know if Stipe is still, genuinely, believing that it has been a better day for us all. The government now has their hands in many more aspects of our lives than what they ever have. We no longer have freedom. We are being monitored - suspect or not - as if we are all terrorists. The government has their hands in everything from cellphones to insurance. The government under Obama is in no way OF the people. The people are the enemy. In 2008, Obama promised a more transparent White House. We have NEVER known the level of a secretive government as we do, today. How has this been a better day for ANY of us, let alone ALL of us?

Liz R Well, the removal of politics from our leadership would be a great start. "Well, aren't our leaders called 'politicians'?" Yeah, that's the label placed on them, but what we need is somebody who is more in touch with the people... and more in line with the Constitution on which this country was founded. It would be great to see the Federal Reserve audited by a neutral third party. Healthcare that is assisted by governmental programs, not run by them. Basically, what I want is an administration that is truly transparent and run by true ethics, rather than the money of lobbyists and special interests. It's a lot to ask for, I realize. But, if our country excelled at these very things in the past, I don't see why we can't move forward toward restoring integrity in our leadership. But, an important thing to realize before we can do so is that such a future does not depend on a two-party political system. Republicans and Democrats are two heads of the same monster. Usually, candidates that run under parties such as the Green Party, Constitution Party, or even no affiliation at all are the candidates that have the people in mind.

Dan Harvell Photography So when did we excel at these very things in the past, Dan.
@dharvell
@dharvell 8 жыл бұрын
+Liz R - We started out with those very aims in mind. Our nation was based on a spirit of refusal to be led by a corrupt government. We stayed pretty well on course. Yes, we were far from perfect. Just ask any black family that endured slavery how perfect our new nation was. Ask the Native Americans how tyrannical our country was not. But, upon further investigation, our (then) future leaders did what they could to correct those issues. Slavery was abolished, reserves were set up for the Native Americans (although, that solution could have been a lot better). Heck... women were even allowed in the voting booth. How's that for a step in the right direction? So yes, we excelled at those things. But then, the government got cocky. Conspiracy theories such as MK-Ultra and Project Northwoods were found to be more than just conspiracy theories. I'm not what you would call a "Truther", but the events of 9/11/2001 look pretty suspect, when you hold the light of accountability to the group that did a half-hearted investigation into everything that transpired, that day. And to be honest, the corruption started long before the MK-Ultras and the Project Northwoods. With each special agency that opened their doors, a little bit of America's true soul died. Now, corruption runs rampant on both sides of the isle, lies being the lullabies that keep us asleep. But the point is, once upon a time we did more than excel at these things... we DEFINED them. Call me naïve if you wish, but I believe that, even in today's world of technology, if Americans take a stand and demand their country back, we can do it. Not through violence, such as the Civil War saw, but through performing our civil duties. All we would need is an individual who's only agenda is to bring real integrity into the office (side-stepping Congress by shoving through executive orders, like Obama has been doing and as Clinton promises to do is far from having The People's best interests in mind) and a population that can get over their fear of voting for a candidate that exists outside of the tidy little 2-party system that has been placed before us. For an honest America, all we need to do is have the courage to make it happen. That's the problem. We're too afraid. We have become a country of cowards. We're satisfied to define ourselves with a label of either Republican or Democrat. When it boils down... we have become lazy and content with our McGovernment. So... the question becomes, how do we cure laziness? I'm afraid I don't have that answer.

Does anybody have any idea why British interviewers r always overwhelmingly rude to the ppl that they interview especially AMERICANS, with their synthetic intentions deceptively disguise as harmless humor, with which they really mean to be mean with their questions and comments, so as to get across to the interviewee that the interviewer is the alpha dog and that they need to get in and stay in peasant mode where they belong!! I hate when they do that! As though they think that AMERICANS r beneath them when they suck more than any other ppl, person, or thing on the entire planet, especially the "ARISTOCRACY"! Does anybody know why that is???? I know I speak in run-on sentences, but I write as speak in a real conversation with a person. But anyway, does anybody know why that is? Plz look past the typos.☺
