What a treat and joy to watch this! I remember being so excited when he won this award when I was a child. Watching Michael Zaslow portray Roger Thorpe gave me a soft spot for the villain. I was devastated when he passed away (and royally pissed when they had the nerve to recast his character). 23 years later and I still think about Michael Zaslow from time to time and it always brings a smile. God bless his soul 💜

In my opinion, the most amazing actor in daytime television. It really is a travesty that it took this long for him to finally win a Daytime Emmy. He should have won back in the late 70s, with all of that wonderful work he did on the show. He looks sooo good here, and to think just four short years later he would no longer be with us.

oh wel if u had been watching in the late seventies u would know it was Rita was a tortured soul, she was raped like Holly but also lost her baby that turned out to be Ed's not Dr. Fairbanks whom she had a one night affair with, she was kidnapped by Rodger during one of his foiled attempts to kidnap Christina at the circus bazaar forcing her to drive him to his dad's cabin in the woods, he tied her up before fleeing from the cops who was on his trail, then shortly before cops figure out where she was Rita kicked over a lit lantern causing the fire which cause the death of her unborn son due to smoke inhalation, Rita then could never get things back on track with the wonderful Ed who did nothing but love her yet she was wanting more than what Ed could give her never satisfied with one loyal mans love she went on to be pursued by Alan Spaulding having yet another affair with a man who was married to Ed's niece Hope. she through it all away for a scoundrel like Alan who always felt entitle to what he wanted. Holly had more common sense compassion than Rita did.

The greatest villain, ever. All others are mere shadows of Zaslow's Roger Thorpe. Roger was just good enough to make his evil seem the worse for it. He loved Holly so, but stupidly and badly. You couldn't decide if you wanted to hug the guy or punch him in the throat.

djintheatl: Its hard to see, but during the pause before the winner is announced, Peter Simon looks right over at MZ, to catch his reaction, then he smiles real big. It's just hard to see with the fuzziness of the image. He knew who was going to win that year, because Guiding Light finally put together a good submission reel for Zaslow. PS: I know some of the people in the Academy, and they said they'd wanted to vote for Zaslow in previous years, but his submissions just weren't that great. Finally, GL put together the right reel for him. Susan Lucci had the same problem. AMC used to submit pathetic reels for her that didn't showcase her talent at all.

Loved the character of Roger Thorpe. He was a legacy character on GL. I lost interest of the show during the late 90s on, it turned to a completely different show, too many cast changes. I've heard so many great things about Michael zaslow . He was on oltl before I started watching and they brought him back in 98 when he was seriously suffering from.als . He must gave been getting sick bc this is 4 years before . I'm guessing it's a progressive disease . To see him here so healthy really makes u think how life is cruel and we should be grateful for our health Final note Geez how many shows did Jill Phelps produce sp here gl than atwt than oltl than to gh so in 7 years 4 soaps . To me that doesn't sound too good to be replaced that much . I will say she ruined gh with all the mob crap but she had good production . I just think it's not great to shuffle to 4 soaps in 7 yrs plus she ruined Santa Barbara from wjat I've heard of die hards. I think the 80s was oltl most golden time bc their ep was there for 11 years Great character continuity . I also think oltl had a huge resurgence from 93 to 95 with brilliant headwriting abd brilliant young actors and bringing back legends. The marty gang rape story and vikis d.i.d. U didn't feel u were watching a soap not even a mini series it was so brilliant it was like nothing ud ever seen before both stories . Esp that 3 of the top.actors won emmys this particular year howarth haskell and Hillary b smith . With zaslow on gl winning shows u the talent in the early 90s!!! Plus everyone wins now that their are only 4 soaps at one point their were 13 Also if Sanya Barbara was a night soap they were all on the regular emmys correct ? I know knots landing also was a night soap and very different than a Melrose place . Soaps I never got why they got a bad wrap they have the best actors ever and work at a pace that is very hard many ex soapers say movie and tv are a cake walk. They shoot a hr show every day all year I heard like a Roger howarth back in the day worked 17 hours and had to memorize hundred of pages of dialogue either in a day or a week.
